The Hamilton X-Wind is technical masterpiece. From the imposing 44 mm dial, to the extremely detailed black dial. The watch has everything from a calender to subdials for the hours, minutes, and seconds. Arabic numerals act as hour markers while the seconds are highlighted in a stick-styled theme.

First Look: The AP Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked 150th Anniversary 26585XT
Last year, with the John Mayer limited edition, Audemars Piguet announced the end of its older perpetual calendar movement, the calibre 5134. And indeed, as we have seen with the launch of the next-gen Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Selfwinding, there is now a new and modern calibre 7138. But it’s not entirely the end of the old JLC-derived movement, as AP had one last trick up its sleeve to celebrate its 150th anniversary: an openworked Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar (ref. 26585XT) in a mix of titanium and BMG, using the skeletonized calibre 5135. So yes, the 5134 is gone… but it has managed to survive in a stripped-down version in this new and impressive watch.?The new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked 150th Anniversary is housed in a 41mm wide and 9.9mm thick titanium case, water-resistant to 20m – as all the older-gen RO QPs. The bezel, caseback frame, and bracelet mid-links are crafted from BMG – or Bulk Metallic Glass – an alloy con
Petrolhead Corner: Chopard's Karl-Friedrich Scheufele on the Mille Miglia
I recently had the chance to see one of my car-related dreams being partially fulfilled; experiencing the Mille Miglia! It was a last-minute arrangement for me so I sadly could not get behind the wheel of a vintage sports or racing car, but it was a scintillating experience nonetheless. Spending a day-and-a-half in the rolling hills of northern Italy, in between some of the most desirable vintage cars and surrounded by amazing people, and yes, watches too, it was a head-spinning trip. And in the midst of it all, I had the chance to sit down with Mr Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-owner of Chopard, a true car enthusiast and Mille Miglia regular! The topic at hand? The legendary road race, of course, as well as his fascination for cars and how it all ties in with Chopard.Yours truly alongside Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and Jacky Ickx, sitting in the door opening of a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. The Mille MigliaFor those not familiar with the Mille Miglia, it was a timed 1000-mile (roughly) l
In Conversation with Indie Czech Watchmaker Ondrej Berkus
This isn't one of my usual articles in The Collector's Corner. For my first time talking with self-taught Czech watchmaking wizard Ond?ej Berkus (@hodinkyberkus), I wanted a format more intimate than a Q&A (for a look at how well a Q&A can be done, check out Ond?ej's interview with Watch Affinity here). I didn't want to write about how Ond?ej got into watches or about his watchmaking philosophy – I wanted to get to know the man and what drives him. I hope I am able to convey some of the wonders I felt when I spoke with him, and I also hope you enjoy the ride!Special thanks to @jirivratislav for supplying the photos for this article.?Off to CzechiaI look at the windows of the train as we cross the Austrian border to Czechia. It's a dreary day – a thick and oppressive cloud cover hangs in the sky and sheets of rain pour down. It's a flat country out here, a welcome respite from the mountains further west in Austria that seem to glower at you and crowd you in as you dr
