First Look: The New, Retro-Styled Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Chronograph SRQ047 and SRQ049
Whenever we’re talking about Seiko‘s sports watches, those produced under the Prospex range, my mind quickly pictures a dive watch… There’s no denying the influence of the Japanese watchmaker in this field. It has been instrumental. However, we can’t reduce the history of Seiko’s professional watches only to aquatic models. The brand has had an equally strong influence on the chronograph market – remember that in 1969, it was part of a trio that presented the first automatic chronograph movements, with a watch named the Speedtimer. As a tribute to early 1970s models, Seiko brings back this name once more with vintage-inspired references, the SRQ047 and SRQ049.Following the creation of multiple sports timing devices in the early 1960s, Seiko released its first chronograph watch and movement in 1964, which coincidentally was the first of its kind for a Japanese manufacturer, with the Seiko Crown Chronograph and its calibre 5179. Launched for the

Sinn, the German watchmaker with a forte in instrument watches, revisits a racing stopwatch from the 1970s complete with the historical “bullhead” design. A stopwatch designed for the wrist, the overall look of the R500 evokes the exciting atmosphere of motorsports.?Instrument watches for extreme conditionsSinn was founded in Frankfurt, in 1961 by Helmut Sinn, an instructor for blind flight (relying exclusively on instruments for flying an aircraft in conditions of zero visibility) and a former WWII pilot. The core business under Helmut Sinn was the manufacture of navigation clocks and pilot chronographs. In 1994 the company was bought by engineer Lothar Schmidt who pushed technological development to create reliable, ultra-resilient instrument watches, often for special forces – in

Baume HRS Limited Edition Automatic - When Richemont goes Microbrand-Like - Monochrome Watches
When you hear the word Baume, most would assume it's referring to Baume & Mercier, a popular luxury watch brand dating back to 1830 and now part of the Richemont Group. And they'd be partially correct. Baume is an offshoot of Baume & Mercier with Marie Chassot (Product Marketing Director for Baume & Mercier) coming in as the lead, along with several other executives from the parent company. Baume is, however, very much an independent company with different design philosophies and strategic guidance, and a strong focus on sustainability. Baume might be an entry-level brand among Richemont's more prestigious (and expensive) offerings, but there's a lot to like about its deep level of customization and a couple of special edition models. The one I'm reviewing today is its flagship HRS Limited Edition Automatic, a limited production regulator model with an interesting take on recycling. Baume calls it upcycling and its wooden case is made from a used skateboard deck, while the
