In Conversation with Steffen Cornehl, Founder Of Cornehl Watches - Monochrome Watches
Chances are, you've never heard the name Steffen Cornehl before. That's because he is an independent watchmaker of the more obscure variety. He doesn't come from one of the major brands, nor is he based in Switzerland. Instead, he works out of a small studio in Stuggart, Germany, where he restores antique clocks and vintage watches, while slowly building a following of dedicated enthusiasts for his own watches. His customers appreciate his passion for handcrafting historically-inspired watches using traditional techniques, as well as the degree of customization he offers. Not to mention his exceedingly reasonable prices. After coming across some of Steffen's creations, we were curious to learn more, so we set up an interview. Here's what he had to say. Of course, everyone knows about the “Moonwatch”, the Speedmaster Professional, the one that has been worn on the Moon by Buzz Aldrin and that is still in the actual Omega catalogue. Two unique Porsche cars from opposite ends of the world
It's always fun to try and find a suitable topic for The Petrolhead Corner, our weekly episodic slice of car-related content. Every Saturday we publish a story that interests us, and hopefully is fun to read for you as well. This week we have a trio of cars lined up all sharing the same badge, but stemming from very different parts of the world. The two cars in question couldn't be much different though, as we go from a vintage Porsche turned into a Pike's Peak monster, to a full-fledged electric race car that’s destined for the future! World's apart, but kindred spirits.Porsche is one of the most prolific sports car manufacturers in the industry, even though they sell more non-sportscars than actual sports cars. And by non-sportscars, I mean SUV’s and such, no matter how fast they might be. The core of the brand is still very much the 911, but over the past 20 years or so the company has had huge success in taking that 911 spirit into new territories. Cars like the Cayenne
Golden Times For The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 35mm
In the much-contested luxury sports watch category, there are two main contenders: on the one hand, there are the elusive heavyweight contestants with exorbitant prices, and on the other, catering to a far larger demographic, is an over-saturated sector vying for its share of the pie with aggressive prices. Separating the wheat from the chaff, it is reassuring to discover that a good number of rock-solid brands offer well-built, well-designed, mechanically powered sports watches at budget prices. Tissot is undoubtedly one of these, and with the launch of its PRX Powermatic 80 in 2021, it’s fair to say that the Swiss brand has hit a home run. First introduced in a 40mm case size, the watch community’s loud clamours for a more compact model did not fall on deaf ears, and Tissot responded with the PRX Powermatic 80 35mm in June 2023. Today, fans of the PRX are in for a treat as Tissot unveils a hot new version in a yellow gold PVD case delivering the golden Midas touch without
