Introducing The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202XT Titanium & BMG
When it comes down to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin – as we call it, the real deal for an RO – the current reference is the 16202, itself replacing the 15202. Next to this reference number is a pair of letters, which indicate the material of choice for each edition. ST for steel, BA for yellow gold, BC for white gold… And we’ve seen many more in the past too. Take for instance the 15202IP, which combined titanium and platinum. Today, AP introduces the Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202XT. And, apart from one very specific exception, this combination of letters has never been seen in the standard collection.?XT… Letters that might not feel familiar at all for the RO Jumbo. Except that, if we get back in time a bit, in 2021 to be precise, Audemars Piguet did present a watch with such reference, in the shape of the 15202XT. What made this watch special was a combination of uniqueness, since it was a piece unique for Only Watch charity auction (
Industry News: Louis Ferla Appointed CEO of Cartier, Replaces Cyrille Vigneron
Following the appointment a few weeks ago of Nicolas Bos as the new CEO of the Richemont Group (replacing Jer?me Lambert), the luxury conglomerate once again announces changes in managing positions, with a new CEO for its jewellery/watchmaking brand Cartier. Effective 1st September 2024, Louis Ferla (ex-Vacheron Constantin) will take over Cyrille Vigneron as Chief Executive Officer of Cartier.Cyrille Vigneron, after eight years at the helm of Cartier – which is now reported by Morgan Stanley as the second-largest Swiss watch brand, with a turnover estimated at CHF 3,100 billion and 660,000 units sold in 2023 – has decided to retire and will now assume the position of Chairman of Cartier Culture & Philanthropy and will work to the transition with Ferla. The Hands of Time - A Guide to Names of the most used Watch Hands - Monochrome Watches
There are many ways to tell the time: digital watches show us the time using numbers, whereas the first mechanical clocks did not even have faces, and indicated time by chiming it. Hourglasses, candle clocks or clepsydras are other examples. And there’s a segment that we here at Monochrome, refer to as ‘Other Display‘, which include the URWERK’s MB&F’s and Ressence’s of this world. Still, most watches use hands on a dial to show us the hours and minutes, and as is their wont, watchmakers have displayed great creativity in the way they shape hands (for practical or more fancy purposes). These come in a variety of styles and are an integral part of a watch design. It would be tough to come up with an exhaustive list, but we'll take a look at the most used hand designs from watches we have photographed over the past few months.Alpha handsAlpha type hands have a wide base and a narrow stem to connect them to the center of the dial. Montblanc Villeret Seconde Authentique and Villeret Seconde Authentique Diamonds - Monochrome Watches
Montblanc has two watch manufactures; the manufacture in Le Locle where (among others) the Nicolas Rieussec collection and its in-house movement is conceived. The other manufacture is the former Minerva manufacture, where time seems to run in a slower pace and watches are still entirely hand-made.?It is this place, the Montblanc Manufacture in Villeret, where the Collection Villeret 1858 finds its origin. This year Montblanc introduces two new models for ladies who want the best. And that is something that the watchmakers in Villeret are very familiar with. Secondly there is another limited edition of 58 pieces, however this is a diamond-set ladies watch. All these timepieces, both of the set and the
Interviews: Rolf Studer, Co-CEO of Oris, On The Recent Developments of the Brand
Headquartered in Holstein, at the northern edge of the Swiss Jura, Oris sits on the outermost boundary of Switzerland's traditional watchmaking region. This area had a long history of specialising in affordable pin-lever watches. And although the brand had to reinvent itself, this heritage has naturally shaped Oris's philosophy of Go your own way. With the launch of the revamped Aquis Date collection and the new Oris Divers, we had the perfect opportunity to sit down with Rolf Studer, the brand's co-CEO, to explore what sets Oris apart.Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – Rolf, thanks for having us! What is your background, and how did you end up as co-CEO of Oris?Rolf Studer, Co-CEO of Oris – I've always loved watches and well-made objects. My grandfather had a shipyard where he built wooden boats, so I grew up surrounded by the smell of lacquer and mahogany, with tools everywhere. I've always appreciated things made to last, and that's probably how I found my way into the watch ind
