SIHH 2017 - A. Lange & Sohne Lange 31 White Gold / Grey Dial (Price)
When it comes to?power reserves, you probably thought that the 7-day IWC’s or the 8-day Panerai’s were already massively powerful – and obviously, they have more power than 99% of the mechanical watches produced. Well, if power is your thing and you simply hate winding your?watch, you might want?to consider the Lange 31.?Keep in mind the ’31’ does not refer to?the diameter of the watch but rather?the length of its?power reserve…in days. Yes, this watch can run for 31 days, from a?single barrel, when fully wound. Impressive, right? This powerful watch comes in a new version for SIHH 2017, in white gold with a grey dial. When it first debuted in 2007 the?A. Lange & Sohne Lange 31 was the wristwatch with the longest power reserve available, and the first watch to have 31-days / 744hrs of energy stored in a single movement. Although?some others achieved a massive 50-day / 1,200h power reserve (Hublot with their MP-05 LaFerrari) this?was only because t
Top Watch of 2019, By All Members of The MONOCHROME Team
As a Managing Editor, I love to challenge the redaction team at MONOCHROME. So a few weeks ago, I gathered most of our editors and contributors and came with THE big question, one that seems simple at first, but in fact, isn’t. One short question: “choose your favourite watch of 2019”, with no other rule than that. No consideration of price, of availability, of manufacturer or of complication, just the watch that they would love to own. And the answers are pretty interesting. So here are the MONOCHROME’s team Top Watches of 2019.Gandor Bronkhorst, contributor – Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172GSure, it's a safe choice. But the Chronograph 5172G is a safe choice because it triumphs in what it was created for: the flagship watch of probably the most prestigious watchmaker in the world. What's even more impressive: it replaces an icon (the 5170), and is actually, to me, better than its predecessor. I love the slightly more modern design, the stunning details a
Introducing: Tudor Pelagos FXD GMT Zulu Time x Marine Nationale
Tudor‘s connection with military forces is no secret anymore. The most famous of these partnerships is, without a doubt, the co-creation of specific dive watches for the French Marine Nationale, which resulted in some of the most appealing mil-spec models ever made by Tudor. Revived in 2021 with the launch of the Pelagos FXD platform, initially developed with a French Navy specialist unit, the collection has since expanded with a black Pelagos FXD model, the Alinghi Red Bull Racing watches and the FXD Chrono Cycling Edition. Today, Tudor goes back to the roots of the collection with yet another collaboration with the Marine Nationale. But this time, it’s not a dive watch anymore, but a model dedicated to the French Naval Aviation, a pilot’s GMT watch that is known as the Pelagos FXD GMT Zulu Time.Just like mother brand , Tudor has long been involved with military forces. Following the creation of the Submariner in 1953, started to develop more accessible models und
The Auction Hammer - Panerai Mare Nostrum - Monochrome Watches
Vintage Panerai's are already exciting, big, bold, unique and rare. Amongst them the Mare Nostrum is perhaps the most mystical, since it was Panerai's only vintage chronograph. Although the re-make is not as big as the original one, the one offered for auction by Christie's can for sure be called exciting, bold, unique and rare.In 1943 Panerai developed the Mare Nostrum for deck officers and it was their first chronograph. Allegedly only a couple prototypes had been made before the Allied invasion (in Italy) prevented full scale production. Like all the other Panerais, the Mare Nostrum has become a timeless classic. So it was not strange that Panerai made a re-issue of this iconic watch. Ad - Scroll to continue with article In 1993 the Mare Nostrum was introduced for public sale. Panerai did make some alterations to the design. A 42mm case made the watch much mo
The Alpine A110 Edition - A French Treasure // The Petrolhead Corner
Pour une fois, cet episode de “The Petrolhead Corner” sera en fran?ais… Ok sorry, switching back to our usual English. But I could have gone French all the way, as today’s topic is bleu, very bleu. As some of you might know, I’m French, I love cars and I love sports and vintage engines – hence this weekly car-related column. As such, without surprise, I have a special thing for Alpine, which represents a lot as a Frenchy, but also on a personal basis. So today, The Petrolhead Corner puts his baguette under its arm and drives to the French countryside.Image by PetroliciousIf you think French cars, you have Renault, Peugeot and the likes… Nothing to drive me crazy (pun intended), in all fairness. On the other side of the spectre, there’s Bugatti. Yes, it has Italian roots, it is owned by Germans but cars have been produced and are still manufactured in French Alsace, near the German border. But let’s be honest, those cars aren’t
