The artistic Moritz Grossmann ATOM MOORE 37
With high-end German watchmaking companies often comes a sincere level of seriousness and respect for traditions and craftsmanship. Often labelled as the Saxony way of working, brands like A. Lange & Sohne, Glashutte Original and Moritz Grossmann show a real knack for extremely refined and classical styles of watchmaking. But, as we all need to do, every now and then they let loose a little and things like this Mortiz Grossmann ATOM MOORE 37 can come to fruition. A watch that is both a play on an artist’s name and logo, and the scientific symbol of an actual atom. Yet, with respect to the traditional craftsmanship of course!Whenever Moritz Grossmann decides to show a distinct level of freedom, surprising things can happen. One of the most striking examples perhaps is the Backpage Blue released last year. This ATOM MOORE 37 is a special edition of a different kind, made in collaboration with artist and photographer (and watch enthusiast/collector) Atom Moore. Based in New York
My traveling companions - Monochrome Watches
I’m just back –?in one piece – from a three week trip to Jordan and the Egyptian Sina? desert, and here are?some photos that I made during my trip. We planned a trip to Jordan and were considering to visit Syria and/or Egypt depending on the available time and travel possibilities. From the Jordan southern coast it was a short boat trip to Nuweiba in Egypt and the reefs in that area are just great, so time for some diving. On this?trip I had two watches with me:?the IWC Pilot Watch Chronograph (ref. 3717) that I?also had on my wrist a few weeks earlier, when I?visited New York. The other one was my all time favorite vacation watch, the Citizen Automatic Diver.?I’m gonna spare you all the travel stories, since?the?pictures will tell the story for me. I have to add that the historical city of?Petra is very, very impressive and well worth a visit. Another thing you may not miss is taking a plunge into the Dead Sea. That’s a funny experience! Jordan s
Montblanc x Monochrome - Sharing the Passion for Fine Watchmaking - Monochrome Watches
Together with Montblanc we’re organizing an evening to share the passion for fine watchmaking. Sounds promising, right? Well, it’s actually even better than that because our friends of Montblanc have ensured us that there will be a lot of ‘horological sweetness‘, manufactured in Montblanc’s?manufacture in Villeret on show. That’s the old Minerva manufacture, the place where ancient manual techniques and skills still dominate the production of fine watches. So join us next week Thursday, 20 November, in the Montblanc boutique in Amsterdam.?The evening’s theme is ‘Sharing the passion for fine watchmaking‘ and Montblanc have ensured me that there will be more than enough ‘things’ that?we’re all passionate about: lovely timepieces from Villeret! That evening alone, there will be the oh so beautiful Meisterstuck Heritage Perpetual Calendar in red gold (which is also the most affordable perpetual calendar on the market),
Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Retr¨®grado Cobalt Blue
Cuervo y Sobrinos, the Swiss brand with Cuban roots, welcomes another member to its growing Historiador collection. One of the brand's most popular collections, the stylized case of the Historiador takes its profile from an original Cuervo y Sobrinos model from the 1950s. In the past year or so, we've seen the Historiador Peque?os Segundos (small seconds), a chronograph version of the Historiador with a restored Landeron calibre, a Flameante version with a “flaming” salmon dial and even a Luna Negra edition with a full calendar and moon phases. The latest Historiador is the Retr¨®grado model with a retrograde date display. Accompanying the retrograde date are a power reserve display at 6 o'clock and an unusual date display on two scales directly opposite the date.Havana moodWe recently covered the brand's remarkable history that started life in Havana in 1882 and resuscitated in the late 1990s. Cuervos y Sobrinos is all about recreating the Golden Days of La Habana in the 19
