Embracing Death with the Chopard L.U.C Full Strike 'D¨ªa de los Muertos'
The D¨ªa de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a day of celebrating the lives of our deceased loved ones, instead of mourning over their passing. It is a day of remembering the good times and cherishing valuable memories. While primarily celebrated in Latin American cultures, it is embraced by an increasing number of people outside of that. Dedicated to this rather special day, Chopard has created a one of a kind Haute Horlogerie piece. This is the Chopard L.U.C Full Strike D¨ªa de los Muertos. The D¨ªa de Los Muertos is a rather joyous occasion, dedicated to life instead of death in contrast to what the name might imply. Celebrations often include the use of bright coloured depictions of skulls, called Calaveras, and lots of music. In that sense, creating a minute repeater in honour of this day seems like a logical choice, even if it is a one-off only. It’s also not the first time Chopard has embraced the Day of the Dead as inspiration for a unique piece. Ad - Scroll to

Event Recap: An Exclusive Evening with the Montblanc SIHH 2015 Novelties - Monochrome Watches
Two weeks ago, shortly before we launched our newly designed website, Monochrome had the unique opportunity to invite our readers to an exclusive event that usually is never open to the public. The responses were overwhelming, and the event, called Montblanc’s Black & White Weeks, was, as they say, a big success. The beautiful event room in the Amsterdam Richemont offices was packed and there were thick rows of people in front of the tables with new timepieces. Here’s an event recap with a lot of (matching) photos. The location of the event was just superb. Of course Montblanc could have organized it in one of Amsterdam’s beautiful hotels, however they choose for the superb event room, at the top floor of the Richemont offices. This huge room offers space for the 50+ people that gathered that evening, and (in day light) offers a great view over the city centre. Everything is made of steel and glass, and even the stairs to enter the room are made in glass. The photo
First Look: The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Skeleton Pink
TAG Heuer is synonymous with the racetrack, and Jack Heuer's legendary motorsport-inspired chronographs have not lost an iota of popularity. Following fast on the heels of the 1963 Carrera chronograph, in 1969, Heuer produced a bold, square chronograph with a blue dial and a crown on the left side and named it after the Monaco Grand Prix. Immortalised on Steve McQueen's wrist in the cult 1971 film Le Mans, the Monaco has adapted to the new materials and technologies of the watch panorama over the past fifty-five years. The latest Monaco has enjoyed a pit stop in Las Vegas as it reveals its engine with a skeletonised dial and bright pink accents inspired by the neon lights of the Strip. To give you an idea of the ever-increasing allure of TAG Heuer’s square chronograph, the first of the six Monaco prop watches used in Le Mans was sold in 2009 for USD 87,600, a second reference in 2012 for USD 799,500, a third in 2020 for USD 2.2 million (the highest price any Heuer watch has ever r
In-Depth: Why the TAG Heuer CH80 (now named Heuer-03) comes back? (and a visit of the relaunched Chevenez Manufacture) - Monochrome Watches
One week ago, we introduced to you?the first prototype of the TAG Heuer Autavia “Jochen Rindt”?reedition, one of the first customer-designed watches made by the industry in a long time. That’s already a good news on its own, and this watch was not the only point of interest, as inside its case ticks something we didn’t expect to see anymore from TAG Heuer: the Calibre Heuer-03 (previously calibre?CH80?that?was supposed to be a project ‘killed’ before its birth). During the Heuer collectors summit, we had the chance to visit the Chevenez Manufacture (the one that was?supposedly stopped), to see the new movement, to understand?the evolutions and finally to talk with the teams, including Jean-Claude Biver, just to shed some light on this complex?but, in the end, happy situation.BackgroundWhat happened at TAG… Didn’t?stay at TAG!?Why? The fact that?TAG Heuer is a large company, owned by a publicly listed group (LVMH), made the situation publi
