Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept - World's Thinnest Mechanical Watch
At the SIHH 2018, Piaget stole the show by smashing the world record for the thinnest mechanical watch after unveiling the Altiplano Ultimate Concept. Naturally, it was no surprise to see such an achievement from Piaget. Over the years, the brand has set numerous world records of thinness with automatic or manual movements. And records are meant to be broken. What surprised everybody was the amazing slenderness of the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept. At just 2mm thick, it beat the 3.6mm height of the previous record holder, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Squelette. A concept watch at the time, the question was whether or not it could make it to the market. Well, the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept is now available as part of a bespoke customization service. The 2018 prototype version of the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate ConceptThe quest for slendernessFor over 60 years Piaget has tirelessly pursued its quest for slenderness. Baselworld 2015 also means another Edition of Schnitzel Dinner - lots of photos - Monochrome Watches
One of my personal highlights of the year is the annual schnitzel dinner, that is always on the Saturday during Baselworld. It’s a gathering of long-time friends and new friends in the watch industry and the idea is simple: schnitzel, beer, a good conversations. This dinner has been the platform for new collaborations, ?friendships and was the place where the Gronefeld’s received their Timezone Watch of the Year Award. This year’s conversation topics?of course covered the new Patek Calatrava Pilot Travel Time?–?we’ve yet have to meet someone who’s impartial towards it –?and much more. It was a blast again, or as some guests friends call it, the best evening of the fair. I won’t ramble on, here are the photos (including a properly awesome table shot.) Above are some wrist shot, and although what you see here doesn’t cover every watch that was presen
In-Depth - The Ulysse Nardin Freak, 20 years of Watchmaking Innovation
The genius and madness are separated by a very thin line. Weirdos and rebels, people who are different enough, crazy enough, are the ones who change the world. In that respect, the Ulysse Nardin Freak could not be more aptly named. This innovative, disruptive avant-garde masterpiece smashed all conventions and simply changed what's on our wrist todayThe late 1990s were still a time for the renaissance of mechanical watchmaking and the Swiss watch industry hadn't yet fully recover. Back then, very few watchmakers were actually producing movements internally. Most of the industry was sourcing from the same movement manufacturers, ETA for industrial movements, and a few high-end makers such as Frederic Piguet, Lemania, Zenith or Girard-Perregaux, to name a few. Most of the brands were simply happy enough with the renewed interest in mechanical watchmaking Ad - Scroll to continue with article

This year, the ultra-modern and innovative watch brand HYT has expanded the collection with the H3 (recently launched during Baselworld 2015), and now HYT come a with a fourth line, which?starts with the HYT H4 Gotham. HYT’s new timepiece is?a?perfect blend of ingredients that were already available and are now merged into this black and red futuristic timepiece. Let’s have a closer look at the sporty H4 Gotham.HYT's first was introduced only 3 years ago, in 2012, and was called the H1. It was the first timepiece ever (!!) to use fluids for indicating the hours, while the minutes are indicated by a classical minute hand on an off-center dial. The tube that contains the hour-indicating fluids surrounds the off-center minute dial and the main mechanics responsible for the movement of the fluids. These ingredients, the essentials of the brand, are of course also present in the new H4. And there are more design cues that we've seen before, however now they come together in a no
