2019 Behind the Lens - Our Best Videos of the Year - Monochrome Watches
Our videos, which we’d prefer to call “in-depth movies”, are something we’re very proud of, here at MONOCHROME. We take a lot of time and energy to produce them since we believe that seeing a watch or a concept in video and not in photo dramatically helps to understand the beauty that is hidden in these timekeeping objects. This year, 2019, we’ve produced over 60 videos, which can be seen on our YouTube channel. But as we’re saying goodbye to 2019, here’s a recap of our most viewed movies of the year.Understanding the CODE 11:59 by Audemars PiguetWe start with THE most controversial collection of the year, if not of the decade… The Code 11:59 by Audemars Piguet, entirely reviewed here, which you can see in the movie below. Hands-On With the Stunning AP Royal Oak Offshore Beast Black Ceramic
The Beast… Probably the second most emblematic watch of Audemars Piguet. A watch that, like its Genta-designed 1972 ancestor, broke the rules and created an entirely new segment of watches. Extravagant, oversized and polarising at the time of its introduction 30 years ago, it defined the ultra-robust luxury sports watch genre. The first Royal Oak Offshore, a.k.a The Beast, truly was a beast of a watch. And to celebrate three decades of the ROO, Audemars Piguet has released a new version in full black ceramic… And surprisingly, this is a first for this collection. The result, this new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph 42mm Black Ceramic 26238CE, is simply stunning. The Beast in black ceramic is a gift for hardcore fans of the collection.?ContextWe’ve extensively covered the first-generation Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore “The Beast” in this article. Its genesis was the answer to a changing market, with customers wanting something more striking,

When digging into the history of watchmaking, it has been long admitted that the invention of the chronograph was credited to Nicolas Rieussec. Indeed, in 1822, he patented a clock that was able to write time, to record measures of elapsed time. It was, until recently, known as the first ever chronograph (a machine that writes time…). However, in 2013, another watch has been discovered, a watch manufactured?in 1815-1816 and that was able to be stopped and to measure portions of time. This discover changed the perception of history, a watch known as the Louis Moinet Compteur de Tierces, the first stopwatch ever, and it now celebrates its 200th anniversary. As we explained in our “Technical Perspective” article about chronographs,?The Louis Moinet compteur de tierces' pocket watch was discovered in 2013 and is since considered to be the World's first known chronograph'.
