First Look: New Precious Versions of the AP Royal Oak Selfwinding 37mm
When Audemars Piguet‘s iconic Royal Oak turned fifty in 2022, the brand announced that the permanent range of Royal Oak models would be updated aesthetically and mechanically. With this in mind, the 37mm Royal Oak was one of the beneficiaries of the ‘new design evolution’ and reappears in 2024 in two luxurious editions in gold cases with a generous sprinkling of diamonds and gemstones. While the design evolution of 2022 respects the DNA of the Royal Oak’s tonneau-shaped case, octagonal bezel, integrated bracelet and tapisserie dial, the incorporation of the automatic calibre 5900 resulted in a reduced thickness from 9.8 to 9mm. Not only is the case slimmer, but the bevels on the bezel, bracelet and sides are more pronounced, meaning that their polished angles attract more light to the case and make it look slimmer. Another key design upgrade concerns the bracelet with thinner and lighter links that taper elegantly to the folding clasp. Ad - Scroll to c

The Hands of Time - A Guide to Names of the most used Watch Hands - Monochrome Watches
There are many ways to tell the time: digital watches show us the time using numbers, whereas the first mechanical clocks did not even have faces, and indicated time by chiming it. Hourglasses, candle clocks or clepsydras are other examples. And there’s a segment that we here at Monochrome, refer to as ‘Other Display‘, which include the URWERK’s MB&F’s and Ressence’s of this world. Still, most watches use hands on a dial to show us the hours and minutes, and as is their wont, watchmakers have displayed great creativity in the way they shape hands (for practical or more fancy purposes). These come in a variety of styles and are an integral part of a watch design. It would be tough to come up with an exhaustive list, but we'll take a look at the most used hand designs from watches we have photographed over the past few months.Alpha handsAlpha type hands have a wide base and a narrow stem to connect them to the center of the dial. Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Transparente 2019 // Introducing, Review
The reassuring tick-tock of the table clock has by and large been replaced by more modern contraptions for telling the time. Sadly, table clocks, once a ubiquitous presence on the mantelpiece of many homes, have gone the way of drinks trolleys and soda siphons. However, there is one table clock that has survived the tide of changing fashions and continues to fascinate with its perpetual movement activated by invisible changes in temperature: the Atmos. With no requirement to wind the movement, no hidden batteries, Jaeger-LeCoultre's famous Atmos clock returns in a completely transparent case to reveal every detail of its movement that quite literally lives on air. Meet the new and modern?Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Transparente.Atmos TransparenteThe Atmos Transparente ?(from atmosphere, the agent responsible for powering the mechanical movement) is a feast for lovers of mechanical spectacles. It has been quite a while since we’ve heard from independent German watchmaker, Bernhard Lederer. One of the first members of the AHCI (Academie Horlogere des Createurs Independants), Lederer established a reputation with several disruptive horological concepts. In 2002, he launched the brand BLU (Bernhard Lederer et son Univers). Now based in Saint-Blaise, on the outskirts of Neuchatel, Bernhard Lederer works behind the scenes for some of the greatest names in the industry. And now, he is back with a series of chronometer watches dubbed “Tribute to the Masters of Escapements”. To kick off this collection, tribute is paid to one of the greatest watchmakers of the 20th century, Georges Daniels. Meet the Bernhard Lederer Central Impulse Chronometer regulated by a natural escapement with two independent gear trains and two remontoirs d'egalite! The essence of watchmakingThe escapement is one of the most critical parts of a watch, the brain of the movement, or the heart as
