Patek Philippe Grande et Petite Sonnerie 6301P
Chiming watches are some of the most desirable marvels that watchmaking has ever produced. They can assume multiple forms, such as alarm watches or minute repeaters. But when it comes to watches that strike the time, that “musically indicate” the time, the rarest, most exclusive, most impressive and most desirable is the grande sonnerie. Only a handful of watchmakers are capable of manufacturing such a complication, which strikes the time “au passage” and not on demand. Today, Patek Philippe presents a new model, deceptively simple yet utterly complex. Meet the Grande et Petite Sonnerie 6301P.Background, Repeating & Grande Sonnerie Watches at PatekThe grande sonnerie and petite sonnerie hold a special place in the world of Haute Horlogerie. There is only a handful of watchmakers capable of manufacturing such works of arts, often regarded as the ultimate horological complication. Both the grande and petite sonnerie strike the hours and quarters in passing, th

Buzz Aldrin & George Clooney Talk Shop during the Omega Speedmaster's 60th Anniversary Celebrations - Monochrome Watches
Last month I had the distinct privilege of?attending the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Omega Speedmaster. While I am usually rather skeptical about anniversaries of watches, I have no problem whatsoever with celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first watch on the moon. As part of the celebrations, two gentlemen who were present during the festivities, named Mr. Buzz Aldrin and Mr. George Clooney, got?together to?talk shop. While Buzz actually walked on the moon, George also had some experience (well, not really, but in the movie Gravity it looked cool) and they discussed what Buzz’s achievements meant to George, and millions of other Earthlings.?Without further ado…. here’s a transcript of the meeting between Buzz and George. We already told you that Tudor has been looking at their own past, for inspiration. In the past years they have introduced quite a few vintage-inspired models, and this year they surprised us with another version of the Tudor Heritage Black Bay, now in ‘Midnight Blue’. For too long, Tudor has been the little brother of ‘the Crown’, searching for their own identity. When we look at their novelties of the past years they have found their own identity and their latest model only confirms that. Here’s the new Tudor Heritage Ranger ref. 79910. For a few years now, the Rose (Tudor’s historic emblem) has revealed some very iconic ‘toolwatches’, all linked to the history of the brand. Until now there was a balance between new models and the concept of revival.?With the Heritage Black Bay for instance, we had a mix-and-match from historic elements. With their latest offering, the new Heritage Ranger, that is changed because the new Heritage Ranger
Pre-Baselworld 2018 - TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02 Manufacture 43mm - Monochrome Watches
The Carrera is turning 55 and it never ceases to evolve… During its long life, the TAG Heuer Carrera has taken various forms and incorporated numerous innovations and movements. Yet, it was born a chronograph and remains mainly a chronograph. For Baselworld?2018, TAG will introduce a new edition of its icon, another technical, sporty version, this time with the newly developed Calibre Heuer 02 inside. While the brand has the ability to play with vintage codes and faithful reeditions – see the Autavia or the Monza – the team made the deliberate choice to modernise the watch instead of recreating a watch that looks to the past. This strategy has been deployed over the entire collection when TAG introduced the Carrera Heuer 01, a modular, large and bold piece that incorporated the skeletonised version of the Chronograph calibre 1887 – named here Heuer 01. At 45mm, with angular shapes and a mix of technical materials, it was a strong choice, but one that proved to be
