Lange und Sohne Saxonia Thin - a Future Classic - Monochrome Watches
Last year A. Lange & Sohne restyled the Saxonia collection and introduced the all new Saxonia Thin. The thinnest Lange & Sohne ever, measuring just 5.9 mm in height. This year the pink gold Saxonia Thin gets a white gold sibling.Classic, beautiful and typical Lange & Sohne style, however thin… While Lange & Sohne is well known for their robust movements like those in the Double Split and Datograph, an extra thin movement is something that is slightly out of the ordinary for this German manufacture. Letter from the Editor - Frank's Take On Smart Watches
Smart watches even?the name annoys me. There?are however, a league of (more profound) reasons why we do not cover such wrist ornaments on Monochrome. Of course we get questions from our readers asking why we have not reviewed the ref. 5396 Patek Annual?Calendar, and rightfully so. We should have reviewed that watch, and as soon as we find a way to do so, together with the 178 year old family-owned brand from Geneva, we will. I'm actually surprised though, that we hardly get questions about smart watches, very pleasantly surprised in fact! So let my rant about these little electronic wrist devices begin.I started Monochrome 11 years ago to share my passion for beautifully made mechanical timepieces. The history of watchmaking in general, the history of certain brands, the beauty of finishing, and specific complications were all things that I wanted to share with our?readers. And that's what we are still doing today, 11 years later, albeit with a bigger team and a much bigger audience. T

Whether it is through pictures, music that brings back memories, or artefacts from that perfect summer vacation, everybody has these rituals. And, in comparison, the watch industry is not that different. With the vintage market booming, and previously overlooked pieces on the rise, multiple brands take a look at their Greatest Hits and decide to revive them. And when done right, the result can be very rewarding. Hands-On Atelier de Chronometrie AdC21 for Only Watch 2021
Atelier de Chronometrie makes its first appearance at the Only Watch auction with the donation of an absolutely stunning handmade watch to raise money for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The AdC21 is not part of a collection and was specially designed for the Only Watch charity auction. Like other timepieces created by the independent brand, it evokes a vintage 1930s and 1940s design ethos with its elegant two-tone sector dial and pink gold case. A time-only watch running on a heavily reworked vintage Omega calibre 283, this exquisite unique piece will be highly contested during the auction. With its French name, you could mistake it as a Swiss or even a French watch brand. However, Atelier de Chronometrie is a Spanish company. Founded in 2014 in Barcelona, Atelier de Chronometrie creates unique watches by hand using artisanal methods and restored vintage chronometer movements. Just two years after its inauguration, the independent brand produced the AdC1, an Observatoire Chr
