Stopping a Tourbillon - Monochrome Watches
The tourbillon is often regarded as one of the most prestigious complications and a demonstration of the skill and craftsmanship of the watchmakers capable of manufacturing this captivating mechanism. Invented by Breguet in 1801, its aim is to negate the influence of gravity on the regulating organ of watches. Changes in position have significant effects on the way watches keep time. In a tourbillon, a mobile carriage rotating at slow speed (most often once per minute) houses the balance, balance-spring and escapement to average out positional errors. Tourbillon watches are, therefore, built to keep time with superior precision, but, until very recently, they had one significant drawback. It was impossible to set the time with to-the-second accuracy with a classic stop-seconds function. Indeed, it would seem logical and obvious to be able to synchronize the movement to a time signal. The ability to stop the balance wheel and the seconds hand of a mechanical movement is critical. Fran?ois-Henry Bennahmias Will Leave Audemars Piguet End of 2023
What was once just an unconfirmed?rumour is now official. Fran?ois-Henry?Bennahmias, the charismatic CEO of Audemars Piguet, will leave the brand at the end of 2023. The news was announced in an interview together with Jasmine Audemars, released in Le Temps?today.Fran?ois-Henry?Bennahmias joined Audemars Piguet some 30 years ago and has been at the helm of the brand for the past 10 years. He will leave the company in excellent shape with revenues of about 1.6 billion francs and a production of some 45,000 watches in 2021. The interview released in Le Temps reports that the transition process has been under discussion since 2017 and that back then, Fran?ois-Henry Bennahmias had informed the Audemars Piguet Board of his desire to retire after the 50-year anniversary of the Royal Oak in 2022. A date is now set. He will continue to exercise his functions as CEO, ensuring a smooth transition until the end of 2023.The Audemars Piguet Board has therefore decided to launch a search process for
Technical Perspective: All About Omegas Laboratoire de Precision, a new Chronometer Certification to compete with COSC
Omega is one of the largest luxury watchmakers on the market, carrying multiple emblematic models (Seamaster and Speedmaster, to name a few). However, one vital element of the brand’s success lies in its almost unique take on precision. Omega has long been a pioneer in this field, often ranking first in chronometry contests and introducing solutions such as the co-axial escapement, the Master Chronometer certification or, recently, the Spirate system. Over-engineering and utmost precision are at the heart of the brand, and the latest step in the field of chronometry is named Laboratoire de Precision. A new, officially authorised chronometer testing laboratory meant to be integrated into the Master Chronometer workflow, the Laboratoire de Precision is open to any brand that would like to use its services.I realise this announcement isn't entirely new; Omega introduced it a couple of days before Watches & Wonders. However, I've waited to have more time to dig into this topic to
Richard Mille Introduces the RM028 Orange Flash and 3 More Limited Editions for the EMEA Region - Monochrome Watches
Richard Mille is synonymous for luxury sports watches, or maybe even synonymous for the ultimate luxury in sports watches. Whether it’s a big round dive watch with a tourbillon or a an extremely light-weight tonneau shaped watch with a tourbillon that can be worn when playing golf, like the RM038 Bubba Watson Tourbillon; Richard Mille creates timepieces for people who also have a Black Card for a credit card and a Vertu instead of a boring middle-class iPhone.?What sets Richard Mille’s watches apart from the crowd, are the iconic case designs and the unmistakably?recognizable?three-dimensional sculptures that his mechanical movements are. Richard Mille has taken luxury sports watches to a level, where even the veterans of the watch industry didn’t dare to go.This week Richard Mille announced four new watches. There will be a black edition of the RM 055 Bubba Watson (being the Bubba Watson watch without the tourbillon), two tourbillon watches in a carbon case and one r
Introducing: The New Panerai Luminor Logo 44mm PAM01624
When it comes to Panerai, we’ve seen the brand getting slightly out of track from time to time, with complex movements, smaller watches with low water-resistance and innovative materials that didn’t feel too convincing. So, when the brand introduces a nice-looking, straightforward model that does everything you want from a Panerai, we somehow have to talk about it. And this new Luminor Logo 44mm PAM01624, a classic, sleek hand-wound watch with a discreet dash of colour does all of that.Back-to-basics… This is what this new PAM01624 is all about. A classic movement, the signature Luminor case, the OP logo on the dial and a time-only display with small seconds. Let’s start with the specs; Luminor shape with the trademark crown protection, a 100m water-resistance, a domed sapphire crystal on top with a closed back. A polished exterior, a nice brown leather strap for that iconic look and feel and an additional green rubber strap included in the box, for when you wan
