Watches NEWS
Introducing: The Surprising New 34mm Diameter of the A. Lange & Sohne 1815
The name of A. Lange & Sohne‘s 1815 watch family refers to the year Ferdinand Adolph Lange was born, the founder of precision watchmaking in Glashutte, Germany. Inspired by F.A. Lange's pocket watches, all 1815 models are hand-wound and feature classical details like the peripheral railway-track minutes scale. One of the most traditional, understated yet refined references is the 1815 time-only model. Today, the brand unveils a surprisingly small 34mm edition of the 1815, making it the most compact version of the 1815 in its 30-year history. While the diameter has been reduced, the new movement has a robust power reserve. While the 1815 has popped up in different metals and different coloured dials since its debut in 1995, the case size fluctuated from its original 36mm to 40mm in 2009 and settled down to a mid-sized case of 38.5mm diameter in 2014. The 2022 Audemars Piguet Ceramic Complication Watches
Audemars Piguet has long demonstrated its ability to break the rules of classic haute horlogerie, using traditional complications and high-end, hand-finished movements of the highest level and encasing them in bold, polarising watches with a genuine contemporary approach to design. Today, the Le Brassus-based manufacturer presents a new collection that pushes the concept even further, using coloured ceramics to create contrast and to emphasise their bold designs. From a full-blue ceramic RO Perpetual Calendar to a futuristic green-toned ROC and no fewer than three different highly complex Code 11.59 models, they all show impressive modernity and yet respect for the high-end watchmaking we’ve come to love.?The Full-Blue Ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual CalendarThe first in line in this new sub-collection of high-end ceramic watches is a bold one. Hands-On - The Blue Ceramic AP Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 26579CS
There is no hiding the popularity of the Royal Oak as a collection. Audemars Piguet‘s luxury sports watch, the initiator of the genre born in 1972, is one of the few truly iconic watches on the market and celebrated its grand 50th anniversary earlier this year. If most Royal Oak models are highly coveted, there are a few pieces crafted in ceramic that hold an even more coveted and special place in the collection. As part of a collection of high-end, complicated pieces focused on the use of this innovative material, Audemars Piguet has released a watch that has already generated a lot of attention: a full-blue ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar. And we’ve been lucky enough to try on it on the wrist. Spoiler – it is an absolutely mind-blowing watch… like it or not!Full ceramic Royal Oak watches have ascended to become the top of the range for the brand, surpassing precious metals in terms of aura and collectability. The ultimate RO, if you like. The full ceramic
Pre-SIHH 2019 - IWC Pilots Watch Chronograph Spitfire Bronze IW3879 Manufacture Movement (Hands-On, Specs & Price)
Last but not least, of the four pilot watch ‘teasers’ that IWC has released ahead of the SIHH 2019, is this well-proportioned, vintage-inspired, bronze-cased, no-nonsense chronograph upgraded with a manufacture movement. All of that might sound like music to the ears of many collectors. At least, it does to us. Meet the?IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Spitfire Bronze ref.?IW387902.Earlier this year, IWC introduced the?Pilot's Watch Chronograph IW377724, a nice, slightly vintage-inspired piece bringing back some of the design elements found on the Mark II and the 1990s ref. 3706 – the simple Flieger Chronograph, without the rattrapante function. Basically, this watch was the modern iteration of the model that relaunched pilot’s watches at IWC. Today, IWC applies a similar concept to the?Pilot's Watch Chronograph Spitfire… and more! Pre-SIHH 2018 - Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Excellence Platine 4010T (Specs & Price)
It seems that Vacheron Constantin’s current favorite complication might well be the triple calendar (or full calendar, or complete calendar… which all refer to the same complication). Brought back to center stage with the stunning?Historiques Triple Calendrier 1942 in steel and its gold sibling, the?Triple Calendrier 1948, two superbly vintage-inspired pieces, the elegant calendar display is now integrated into a more modern – and highly precious – watch, as a preview of the SIHH 2018. Please meet the?Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar “Excellence Platine“.Despite using the same complication as the recently introduced?Historiques Triple Calendar 1942 & 1948, Vacheron didn’t just take the same movement and encase it into this new?Traditionnelle Complete Calendar “Excellence Platine”. It is a bit more complex than that. In fact, the complications used in this new watch are the only common point here. All the rest
