Introducing: The Return of the Gerald Genta-Designed Credor Locomotive
Gerald Genta is surely mostly known for his work with Audemars Piguet (1972, Royal Oak), Patek Philippe (Nautilus, 1976) or his own bold and original creations. There is, however, much more to the man than just these two icons of the luxury sports watch category (think Universal Geneve Polerouter, Omega Constellation or King Midas). Lesser known is his work in Japan, and in particular, a watch designed in 1979, with most of the traits of a classic sporty-chic watch with a bracelet, the Credor Locomotive. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Seiko-owned high-end watchmaker, the Credor Locomotive is now back as a luxurious and automatic titanium limited edition, the reference GCCR999. 1979 Seiko Credor Locomotive Genta’s design sketch for the Locomotive Credor was born in 1974, as a higher-end and more luxurious take on Japanese watchmaking. While Grand Seiko can be seen as the technical and precision-oriented side of the Group, Credor is its high-e
2020 Cartier Prive Tank Asymetrique (Specs & Price)
From its rich jeweller-watchmaker tradition, the French Maison Cartier has built an unrivalled legacy in creating fascinating shaped watches.?Since 2017, the Cartier Prive collection highlights the design of some of the brand's legendary models. Unlike the 1998-2008 Collection Privee Cartier Paris (a.k.a CPCP), which was characterized by strict codes (uniform guilloche dials and Roman numerals, with Cartier Paris logo and a rosette, burgundy straps, etc), the new Cartier Prive collection leaves more scope for creativity and variations. After the Crash, the Tank Cintree and the Tonneau, it is time for the Tank Asymetrique to be reinterpreted. The 1930s were a period of intense creativity for Cartier. With Art Deco, wristwatches came in a multitude of geometric forms.?The iconic Tank theme underwent numerous variations. Among these, the unapologetically elegant Tank Asymetrique, which was known at the time as the Parallelogramme or Losange. Created in 1936, the model stands out with its o
Chopard resurrects Ferdinand Berthoud with the Chronometrie Ferdinand Berthoud FB1 - Review with history, live photos, specs & price - Monochrome-Watches
In the watchmaking industry, there are few iconic names. Contemporary ones like Philippe Dufour or Fran?ois-Paul Journe, but mainly some old but highly famous?names like Abraham-Louis Breguet. Another one might be slightly less known but his working life also?conducted to true innovations and several masterpieces: Ferdinand Berthoud. This long-time forgotten name is about to live again, as Chopard Group (that owns it for a few years now) just decided to resurrect the concept and the production of watches branded “Ferdinand Berthoud”, with an impressive first timepiece, the?Chronometre FB1. Overview. When it comes to the use of old names in modern watchmaking, we tend to be, at first, skeptical. We’ve seen so many interesting names, praised by vintage watches collectors,?dug up?from the past with results that tend to be… debatable. Using a famous name or brand, just for marketing reasons,?with cheap quartz watches is, unfortunately, quite common. However, from tim
The Auction Hammer: Elvis Presleys Omega Constellation - Monochrome Watches
It's Now or Never, or it will be at the Antiquorum sale of Important Modern and Vintage Timepieces in New York on December 11. If You're Lonesome that night you might want to take yourself downtown to Madison Avenue where among the highlights will be the rare sighting of a c.1960 Omega Constellation, which was once owned and worn by a king. And not just any old king either, we're talking about The King himself - Elvis Presley!Charlie Hodge, a successful musician himself, became a close friend of Presley during their time together when both were serving in the US Army. The two struck up a lasting chemistry between them, and their friendship would endure until the Legend's death, with Hodge a faithful and loyal aide and counsel, and even residing in Graceland for 16 years. Presley's Omega Constellation regularly drew admiring comments from his friend, and eventually Hodge was made a gift of the watch as a token of their bond. The Elvis Presley Omega Constellation features the Cal. 504 man
Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon 6500T - Hands-On, Specs & Price
Today, we’re not going to do a regular “Monochrome-Style” review, detailing every element of a watch or dissecting every technical feature. Instead, we’re going to do something “for the sake of watchmaking“, for the beauty of an art – because, at a certain point, I think we can move to another level and talk about proper works of art. To illustrate this, we’re going to look at just one watch, the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon, by focussing on some small but extremely important features, and demonstrating what high-end watchmaking is… And you’ll see, it doesn’t need to be loud and demonstrative.Of course, we could easily go on about every detail of this?Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon, which was first presented in September 2016. We could explain that it is a simplified version?(if I can say…) of the ultra-complex Calibre 2755, a watch that combines tourb
