The New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph 43mm
Presented in 1993, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph, known as “The Beast,” brought a robust, utilitarian look to the Royal Oak. Since its inception, this watch has been regularly updated, adding for instance a 44mm version in the early 2000s. This year, Audemars Piguet is presenting a complete makeover of its robust chronograph, with a new design, a more ergonomic 43mm case, more refined details on the habillage, interchangeable straps and, mostly, the addition of the brand's integrated selfwinding flyback chronograph, the Calibre 4401. With 5 models honed from stainless steel, 18-carat pink gold or titanium, the new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph 43mm is already a solid collection. After launching the initial Royal Oak in 1972, which caused a revolution in watch design and introduced us to the concept of a luxury steel sports watch, the Offshore collection almost did the same in 1993 when first presented. It was bolder, more disruptive and defi
Collector Corner - The Story of The JLC Reverso Chronograph Retrograde
Welcome back to The Collector's Corner. Earlier this year, we took a detailed look at one of the most impressive chronographs developed from the ground up during the 1990s, namely the Reverso Chronographe Retrograde. This, back in an era when in-house wasn't yet what it is today, was nothing short of an achievement, specifically considering we're talking chronograph. This article is something a little different from the usual content in The Collector's Corner. I recently had the chance to talk with Matthieu Sauret, Product Marketing & Heritage Director at Jaeger-LeCoultre and Philippe Vandel, movement designer and constructor at Jaeger-LeCoultre and to discuss the development of the Reverso Chronographe Retrograde and the zeitgeist of the 1990s. I am overjoyed that I can now share the conversation with you.?Editor's Note: interview has been edited for clarity. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
First Look: The New, Customizable Ferdinand Berthoud FB RES
In 2015, Ferdinand Berthoud, a brand with a historical name resurrected by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard’s co-president, unveiled the Chronometre Ferdinand Berthoud FB1. Since then, we’ve witnessed the successful launch of numerous references in the FB1, FB2, and FB3 collections. These releases have showcased groundbreaking engineering innovations and distinguished themselves with their exceptional design, setting them apart from today’s other ultra-complicated masterpieces. The Chronometre FB RES marks a significant evolution from its predecessor, the Chronometre FB 2RE. Unveiled in 2020, the FB 2RE broke ground as the brand’s first round-cased, non-tourbillon-regulated watch, with all three hands in the centre. It featured an FB movement equipped with the fusee-and-chain transmission and a remontoire. Now, the Chronometre FB RES (Remontoir d'egalite Squelette) takes this innovation further, offering an insight into its inner workings with customizable finis
Who's afraid of Red? Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso 1931 Rouge - LIVE Photos - Monochrome Watches
Unusual… that’s probably the best word for a watch with a red dial. In this case however it’s not only unusual, but also very cool! The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso 1931 Rouge looks cool and sophisticated.?I have to admit that I’m kind of conservative when choosing a watch for my own wrist. The Hautlence HL Ti 02?is an exception, although its design looks kind of futuristic,?it still features a monochrome color scheme and no wild and colorful dial. Meet the exception… Ad - Scroll to continue with article Usually even a case made in yellow, pink or red gold is too flashy for my taste and I prefer white metals. Similar with dials, I prefer them black, white, silver or anthracite. I know this might sound boring, but I think there’s enough variation within these parameters. You won’t easily see a watch with a colorful
Tudor Heritage Black Bay Bronze Blue Bucherer Edition (Specs & Price)
Please welcome the BBBBB… Yes, 5 B’s for a new model that will definitely create some buzz (again). Three of these B’s are already known, they refer to the Black Bay Bronze. Add to that a fourth B, for Blue, the color used by a certain Maison for its special editions, plus a fifth a final B for another Maison,?Bucherer. So there you have it, following the tradition of special editions dressed in blue, Bucherer and Tudor have unveiled the new – and exclusive to the retailer’s?stores –?Tudor Heritage Black Bay Bronze Blue.Bucherer is one of the oldest and largest watch retailers in the world, founded in 1888 and now counts 16 stores in Switzerland, 10 stores in Germany, and 1 store in each of Vienna and Copenhagen, as well as the world's largest watch and jewelry store in Paris. You can imagine then, that watch brands are quite respectful of such a client and are more than happy to create special editions for them. And they did… In the run-up to
