The Auction Hammer - Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo - Monochrome Watches
Another magnificent find is an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo A-series, that is for auction this Saturday. Although the Antiquorum auction is in Hongkong, you can also bid online! Since this A-series of the Royal Oak Jumbo, the most sought-after of all Royal Oaks, featuring the AP logo just above the 6 o’clock position, in stead of positioned at the 12 o’clock position like later Royal Oak Jumbos. This A-series also features the finer hobnail dial, that looks more refined that the bigger hobnail pattern found on later RO’s. Ad - Scroll to continue with article According to Antiquorum this is No. A 745 and it’s made in 1972. The estimated price, between $ 7,800 and $ 10,000 , seems LOW. Even when you know the case has some scratches and the (original) hands are slightly oxidized. The Antiquorum condition report states that the movement is
Hands-On - The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Platinum (Price)
Omega's Speedmaster Moonwatch has exerted its gravitational pull on earthlings for over half a century converting Omega's robust chronograph into a living icon. For countless fans of the Speedmaster, Omega's announcement in 2019 that it would be resuscitating its legendary Calibre 321 was as exciting as the Moon landing. The first watch graced with the revered hand-wound column-wheel chronograph was the high-end Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Platinum followed a year later by a steel model, the Moonwatch Calibre 321?(which we named “The Ultimate Speedmaster”). Let's take a closer look at this heavyweight deluxe version with its onyx dial and lunar meteorite counters. What came first, the chicken or the egg? Before the Speedmaster even existed, its heart was already beating at Lemania's manufacture in Villeret. Renowned for its outstanding watch movements, in particular chronographs, stopwatches and repeaters, Lemania once provided chronograph calibres for the big names in watchmak
5 Cool Finds - 2 Classic Dress Watch, 2 Vintage Inspired Chronographs and an IWC Ingenieur Automatic Vintage Collection - Monochrome Watches
Here is our 8th installment of our market finds, in collaboration with the online auction?platform?Catawiki. Every Friday we select five ‘youngtimers’ that would make a great addition to ever watch collection. This week, we found 2 perfect dress watches from Patek Philippe and Jaeger-LeCoultre, 2 great vintage inspired chronographs from TAG Heuer and Glashutte-Original and a collectible anti-magnetic watch, the IWC Ingenieur Automatic Vintage Collection.?This week we will only show you three cool finds, because of a not-so-cool?reason: two of the five watches that we selected are replicas / fakes.?These watches were offered at Catawiki and they admit, to their shame, that a few fakes have slipped through their quality control. We will stop our collaboration with them, effective immediately, because we do not want to risk recommending you, our valued readers, a replica as a great find.?Patek Philippe Calatrava ref. 5115GThe Patek Philippe Calatrava is probably the most iconi
Introducing: The Sport Transparent Summer Vibe Of The Artya AquaSaphir
Artya was founded in 2010 in Geneva by Yvan Arpa, a Swiss watch designer with a wild, eccentric imagination. Using unusual materials like real bullets, dinosaur dung, tobacco, and even a case that was struck by a lightning bolt generated by a giant Tesla coil, Yvan Arpa’s watch designs are hard to categorise. His latest project is the AquaSaphir, a collection of sapphire crystal watches with summery colours. Touted as the “first aquatic watch with a case made of sapphire crystal“, it’s worth pointing out that it is not a bona fide diver; the case’s water resistance is limited to 60 metres and the bezel is fixed. However, if you’re on the hunt for a summer-ready watch with a cool turquoise transparent sapphire case powered by a COSC chronometer-certified movement and have a spare EUR 40,000, the AquaSaphir is an attractive candidate.Unlike the Artya Depth Gauge introduced in 2022 with its 300m water-resistant case, the graduated bezel of the AquaSaphi
A Personal Insight To Why I Bought the Union Glashutte 1893 Johannes Durrstein
I’m very fortunate (and spoilt, in a way) to handle hundreds of watches every year working for MONOCHROME Watches. To the point that I almost have to admit it’s not that easy to be impressed anymore, but it does happen from time to time. Of course, it’s not that difficult to be amazed by very complex and exquisitely finished watches, but I have to take a certain budget into account when it concerns my own collecting adventures. But when I first stepped into the Union Glashutte manufacture about a year ago, I did not expect to be swept off my feet. The reason for this unexpected love-at-first-sight moment? The handsome 1893 Johannes Durrstein Edition Power Reserve, which I wrote about first in 2022. Seeing it in person made me pull the trigger on this one, which was far from planned, given I had a wedding to pay for shortly after that. Despite all this, and since I now own one, I wanted to revisit the 1893 Johannes Durrstein Edition Power Reserve for my own – and
