With their softly rounded square cases and inner round opening, cushion-shaped watches are a sure way to stylishly stand out from the crowd. Masculine and refined, here are 6 high-end cushion shaped watches released in 2017, for those who want to look original, yet stylish.Vacheron Constantin Historiques Americaine 1921 mid-sizeInspired by a model from 1921 (itself based on a 1919 production for the American market), the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Americaine 1921 is probably one of the most handsome watches the brand has ever made. Its crown is placed in the upper right corner and its dial is also tilted to align the 12 o'clock indication with it. This mid-size version of the model introduced this fall (pre-SIHH) makes it even more elegant. It is powered by the superb VC 4400 manual movement. Sheer dandyism! Finding your new watch - Monochrome Watches
Sometimes a watch really grasps your attention and doesn’t let go. What is it that sets this watch apart from the rest? Is it the looks or maybe the brand’s name and fame appeals to you? Or did your father or favourite movie star had a watch that made a deep impression? Or maybe it is mainly about the technical aspects?Since the reason will be different for everyone and will probably even differ from watch to watch, I can only describe what made me want a watch from the Finnish watchmaker Sarpaneva. In my story at World Tempus I wrote about my decision to buy a special watch. But why this one and not any other watch. There are thousands of beautiful watches, so more than enough to choose from. One of my friends is crazy about a double straumann escapement, while i have just a vague idea of what makes this escapement differ from normal escapements. One of my other friends collects Cartier of the Collection Privee. And so do we all have a weak spot for something different. Fo
Hands-On - Zenith Chronomaster Sport Rose Gold (Specs & Price)
Earlier this year, Zenith introduced a new watch intended to become a cornerstone of its collection, the new standard?sports chronograph of the brand, and a watch that created a lot of discussions too – with highly positive comments, and equally negative ones too. This watch, the Chronomaster Sport, is a model with strong arguments to compete in the luxury sports chronograph category, being mechanically fully equipped, very well executed and simply handsome design-wise. First launched in steel, with a white or black dial, the first evolution has been presented a week ago, with a rose gold case. Today, we’ll take a closer look at this luxurious edition, and also address the elephant in room… that Zaytona/Daytona-Killer topic.?The gold Chronomaster SportThe name Chronomaster is far from new in Zenith’s nomenclature. Launched at the end of the year 1994, it has since become a key element in the brand’s collection. Following the relaunch of the production of t
Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Memovox Timer - Hands-On, Price
Earlier this year at the digital edition of Watches & Wonders, Jaeger-LeCoultre presented two Master Control Memovox models. The one which interests us today is the limited edition Master Control Memovox Timer model, a classic Memovox alarm watch with a twist. Along with the traditional alarm function (typically JLC), the Memovox comes with a novel complication in the form of a timer indication. Housed in a new 40mm Master Control case and fitted with a re-engineered edition of calibre 956, the caseback is now open to reveal the new strike-works system. However, the one thing that hasn't changed is the signature school bell sound of the alarm. Let’s take a closer look…Brief background on alarmsMost people today are bombarded with beeps and vibrations coming from their smartphones, smartwatches and Fitbits. There's always something buzzing that needs to be dealt with; be it your wake-up tone, another company email or a prod to walk more steps to reach your daily fitness
Vacheron Constantin Historique American 1921 - driver's watch - Monochrome Watches
Vacheron Constantin released a re-issue of a 1920’s watch at SIHH 2009. The Historique American 1921 is probably one of the most beautiful watches Vacheron Constantin ever made, but it also has something weird…In 1919 Vacheron Constantin made a watch in a cushion shape case with a crown placed at the upper left corner, at the 11 ‘o clock position. Usually the crown is at right side of the case mostly at the 3 ‘o clock position, sometimes at the 4 ‘o clock position. Some watches even place the crown at the left side, at the 9 ‘o clock position. The crown position Vacheron Constantin has chosen is very remarkable. I believe this was a so called driver’s watch.Due to the crown position and the use of a conventional movement from a pocket watch, the dial is turned slightly so the 12 ‘o clock position is where the crown is, at the upper left corner. If the watch was worn on the right wrist, it was possible to read time while keeping your hands
