A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Automatic now with Terra-Brown dials (specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
Back in 2015, A. Lange & Sohne introduced a brand new Saxonia collection, revamping all the editions, with new dials and new sizes, while keeping the same concept: clean, elegant and restrained dress watches. In the tradition of the Saxonian Manufacture, these watches were all available in white gold or pink gold case, but only?with a white dial – to the exception of a special Boutique edition of the manual edition, with an anthracite dial, that we reviewed. The Saxonia collection is now growing, with the addition of new Terra-Brown dials on the?A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Automatic. At the SIHH 2015,?A. Lange &?Sohne?introduced several novelties, including the ultra-exclusive Zeitwerk Minute Repeater or a new version of the iconic Datograph Perpetual. In the middle of these complicated, hyper-desirable watches, the Saxonian Manufacture also introduced something a lot more rational, more accessible to mere mortals but also extremely important for the brand – as bein
Hands-On: The Sapphire Dial AP Code 11.59 Minute Repeater Supersonnerie
At a time when watchmaking brands were rushing to offer their interpretations of the Royal Oak and other models with an integrated design, Audemars Piguet launched an impressive new collection, oddly entitled Code 11.59, which aimed to reset the perception of AP being just the Royal Oak brand. In a bold and disruptive way, AP revealed 13 new references in one day, with three new calibres to power a Selfwinding Chronograph, AP’s first in-house, integrated automatic flyback chronograph movement, a time-and-date Selfwinding watch, and a new Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon. The inaugural collection also included an Openworked Tourbillon, a mesmerising Perpetual Calendar, and a Minute Repeater Supersonnerie. Fast forward four years, and Code 11.59 has grown to become an impressive collection in its own right (yes, we do believe it). It presents Audemars Piguet’s interpretation of classical round watches, meticulously designed with contemporary style and craft at the forefront of e
Patek Philippe Alarm Travel Time 5520P (Live Pics, Specs & Price)
In 2015, Patek Philippe stunned the luxury watch community with the unveiling of the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 5524. Polarising in its design, it was easily one of the most talked about watches of the Fair. Four years later and the Geneva powerhouse is at it again, pushing the boundaries even further with its latest Grand Complication, the Ref. 5520P Alarm Travel Time. We were fortunate enough to spend some hands-on time with this impressive new timepiece. Here are our initial thoughts.Editor’s note: to understand more about the complex 5520P, please check the video on top of this article. If you're new to the world of luxury watches, you may have missed all the controversy surrounding the introduction of the Ref. 5524 in 2015. In fact, now you might even find it hard to believe there was any controversy at all, as the model has since become a core part of the Calatrava collection. So much so that a second version - the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 7234R Lady - debuted
Why not a pocket watch? Hands-on with the Montblanc 4810 Orbis Terrarum Pocket Watch 110 years Edition (live pics, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
Pocket watches used to be very popular. Well, in fact it seems certainly understandable, given they were the only available option to carry the time. Then, at the beginning of the 20th century, along came wristwatches, which through the first half of the 20th century, became the norm. Pocket watches?turned into an obsolete object, more?prone to adorned collectors' displays and museums than to be worn. However, with the actual trend of vintage, couldn't it be distinguished and fashionable?to attach the chain of a pocket watch back on your finely tailored suit? That's what we're going to look at with the?Montblanc 4810 Orbis Terrarum Pocket Watch 110 years Edition, a both modern, practical (display-wise), complicated, elegant and well-priced pocket / table watch. We're all used to looking at the time on our wrists. A vast majority of collectors and watch-aficionado mainly - if not only - have wristwatches in their displays. We're not even talking about mere humans. If they have only one t
Hands-On: The Appealing Raymond Weil Millesime Small Seconds Sector Dial
When you look at this watch, you might think that someone opened a wooden drawer in the attic of a venerable manufacture, found a dusty box and opened it to reveal a well-preserved late-1930s watch. A representative of the brand’s heritage, which would become the base for a re-edition. Except that here, we’re talking about Raymond Weil, a brand founded in 1976, which has 1) never produced such watches and 2) never been truly considered by watch enthusiasts. But this new Millesime Small Seconds, which took the industry by surprise when it won the 2023 Challenge Watch Prize at the GPHG, is on a mission to change the brand’s perception.?Despite a difficult conjuncture in the middle of a watch industry crisis, Raymond Weil (1926-2014) decided to found his own watch company in 1976. He would later be joined by his son-in-law Olivier Bernheim in 1982 to create what remains to this day a family-owned business under the direction of Elie Bernheim, the third generation leading
