Interview - Jean-Claude Biver Reveals His Plans For JC Biver Watches
The news broke out about a month ago as he was speaking on RTS. Jean-Claude Biver is about to launch his small family brand, for passionate people, and very exclusive watches. The 72 years old man stepped down from the head of the LVMH Watch Division in September 2018. Millions of people look forward to retirement, not Jean-Claude Biver. There is no finish line for people like JCB One of the most prominent figures in the watch industry, his 50-year career brought him from Audemars Piguet to Blancpain, Omega, Hublot and more recently to TAG Heuer and LVMH. The Geneva watch week was the perfect opportunity to meet him and his son Pierre to discuss their plans regarding JC Biver Watches.?Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME Watches – Why are you launching JC Biver Watches, a new high-end independent watchmaking brand?Jean-Claude Biver – Like all projects there is not one single reason why. The first one is that you cannot retire from a passion. To retire at 70 is not possible for me. This
The Collector's Series - Talking About The IWC Big Pilot Monopusher Petit Prince
If you're following our Collector's Series column, the name of the man who's about to share his story should be familiar. Tom, also known as Wtt1975 on Instagram, has many passions. On one side, he's a company owner involved in car-related things – something that deserves to be in our Petrolhead series. And on the other side, he’s also collecting watches. Last week, he talked about his powerful Chopard Alpine Eagle. Today, we'll be talking about another oversized chronograph, a watch that also happened to be the first-ever chronograph movement in a Big Pilot. Today, his IWC Big Pilot Monopusher Le Petit Prince is in the spotlights on MONOCHROME.When did you first come into contact with IWC? Close Up - The TAG Heuer OnlyWatch Carbon Monaco
In light of the ninth edition of the Only Watch charity event, where exceptional one-off watches are donated and auctioned to raise funds in the fight against Duchene Muscular Dystrophy, TAG Heuer presents a rather remarkable watch. It’s astounding not only because of its looks, channelling a historical and highly sought-after vintage Heuer Monaco, but even more so because of the extensive use of carbon fibre almost everywhere, even inside the movement. For Only Watch 2021, and allegedly for one time only, the carbon fibre hairspring returns in the TAG Heuer OnlyWatch Carbon Monaco. The Heuer Monaco is a true watchmaking icon and, without a doubt, one of the most recognizable watches on the planet. The square-cased watch is highly regarded as one of the strongest designs ever created. Of course, it helped that a cinematic legend named Steve McQueen wore it on the big screen, but watches with a status like the Monaco are rare within the industry. Ad - Scroll to continue
Oris presents the monochromatic Divers Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400
The Oris Divers Sixty-Five is among the brand's most iconic and recognised collections, going back to the original from 1965 (hence the name). There are a handful of distinctive and unique variations, such as this faithful reissue of a classic, but most follow the same general design language. The latest Divers Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400 brings the in-house calibre 400 to the series in a non-limited edition, which is a first. We've already seen the new movement in Aquis divers, so it's great to have in-house Divers Sixty-Five models in regular production. The stainless steel case is 40mm in diameter, which is fairly standard for the series and a perfect contemporary size. The bidirectional rotating bezel has a black aluminium insert that's familiar enough, but it now sports a 12-hour scale for a second time zone. This is another first for a Divers Sixty-Five in addition to the calibre 400. A double-domed sapphire crystal with an interior anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while
Oris 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition (Specs & Price)
Oris is proving to be one of the most prolific watch brands in terms of novelties during this complicated year. Despite the cancellation of the Reno Air Races, Oris ploughs on with the release of its 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition, a grey PVD-coated Big Crown ProPilot model, now with GMT functionality and pointer date. Let’s have a closer look.Aviation linksOris has been associated with the world of aviation practically since the inception of the brand. The company's first pilot's pocket watch appeared in the early 1910s followed by a pilot's wristwatch in 1917 and the Big Crown pilot's watch of 1938 with its hallmark large crown designed for pilots wearing gloves. The Big Crown family is still going strong and edited in vintage- flavoured models, like this handsome bronze version. The Big Crown ProPilot collection is an offshoot of the historic model and proposes pilot watches in a more contemporary vein. As one of Oris’s key collections, it was only natural that the
