The Collector's Series: Kristian Haagen and his A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual - Monochrome-Watches
In our second instalment of the Collector Series we sit down with one of the coolest guys in watches, Kristian Haagen. He’s a watch enthusiast (watchgeek), collector, author, lecturer and advisor to auctioneers (it must be tough when people ask what he does for a living at dinner parties!). However you may know him best for his mind-blowing photography and instantly recognisable fluorescent bracelet wrist shots on Instagram. In this episode we discuss one of his most iconic pieces, the A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual, the extended version of the ‘regular’ Datograph that is also affectionately know by some as the Dufour-graph. The Internet really boosted my passion for watches and I didn’t feel alone with my interest of everything
Collector's Series - watchfoodwithme's Daniel Roth Papillon 10th Anniversary
An American-based watch collector, Sagar, a.k.a @watchfoodwithme on Instagram, works in Regulatory Affairs for Medical Devices. He might be only 31 years old, but if you look at his feed on social media, scrolling through his collection of watches, you'll see that he already is quite a seasoned horology enthusiast. And he clearly has a thing for unusual watches and colours. From his home base in Minneapolis, USA, he explains why his Daniel Roth Papillon 10th Anniversary Model, which is limited to 110 pieces, is one of his most coveted pieces.?Frank Geelen, MONOCHROME – Your Daniel Roth Papillon is awesome. When did you discover Daniel Roth watches?Sagar, @watchfoodwithme – It was @Orangedial17 a.k.a Wayne's Instagram handle, where I discovered this brand Daniel Roth in late 2020. Portrait - David Candaux, An Independent Watchmaker with the Soul of the Vallee de Joux
Independent watchmaking has been on the rise over the past 20 years, and for good reason. Independent watchmakers are guided by passion and personal perspectives, leading to authentic creations and often crafted to a level unattainable in mass production. David Candaux's motto, Le Coeur et l'Esprit (the heart and mind), perfectly captures this philosophy. Raised in a family of watchmakers, Candaux deeply appreciates the craft’s history, evident in his work. However, for him, tradition should not merely be repetition. If he is a perfect representative of the Vallee de Joux expertise – which means complicated watchmaking and refined craftsmanship, his watches are in a class of their own. We visited the watchmaker in the small village of Le Solliat Just a few meters away from Philippe Dufour's workshop.Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – David, thank you for having us. Your approach to watchmaking is holistic, encompassing everything from movement engineering to crafting and fini
First Look: The Green Panerai Luminor Marina Titanio PAM03325 (Incl. Video)
Panerai’s history is well-known, of course, and although its watches are based on those supplied to the Royal Italian Navy for decades, it wasn’t until 1993 that they became commercially available. The collection is basically split between two lines: the Radiomir, designed to be worn by frogmen commandos, and the Luminor, easily recognized by its signature crown bridge. For 2025, in tandem with a series of Luminor Marina models, Panerai adds a dashing new lightweight model to the ranks: the Panerai Luminor Marina Titanio PAM03325. Not only does it stand out by its formidably robust specs, but also thanks to a handsome sunray-brushed green dial!Paneristi will already have spotted that this new PAM03325 is, of course, a Luminor Marina, which means there’s a small seconds indication positioned at 9′. The design is hardly a surprise, as it shouldn’t be, given the watch’s instantly recognizable profile. It comes down to a cushion-shaped case with a circul
