Spotted - The Watches of Dutch King Willem-Alexander on Koningsdag
April 27th in the Netherlands is Koningsdag or King’s Day. It is a national holiday and celebrates the birth of King Willem-Alexander who was born on 27 April 1967 to Princess Beatrix and diplomat Claus van Amsberg. He became Prince of Orange when his mother became Queen of the Netherlands on 30 April 1980. Willem-Alexander became King in 2013 after Queen Beatrix abdicated. The King is married to M¨¢xima Zorreguieta Cerruti, who is now Queen consort and they have three daughters. And because MONOCHROME has Dutch roots (doesn’t it, Frank Geelen?), we thought it would be a good time to look at the wristwatches of the King, as he owns a few interesting pieces. The first watch spotted on King Willem-Alexander’s wrist is a stainless-steel Datejust on a jubilee bracelet, with a blue dial. A classic timepiece that works well with formal and casual attire. Willem-Alexander wore this watch when he got married in February 2002.? Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Power Control 2019 Edition // Hands-On
As the official partner of the famous Italian Mille Miglia Endurance race for over three decades now, Chopard celebrates its long-standing alliance with two limited-edition Mille Miglia models. Earlier this year, we reviewed the Mille Miglia Race Edition Chronograph dedicated to the historic rally from Brescia to Rome and back. Now it's time to take a closer look at the limited-edition Mille Miglia GTS Power Control model in a two-tone combination of stainless steel and rose gold. A more simple three-hander with date and power reserve gauge, the in-house, chronometer-certified automatic movement offers drivers 60 hours of autonomy.?Alexandra Pauli for ChopardGTS Power ControlMany of you will recognise this watch as the continuation of the first GTS Power Control model introduced at Baselworld 2015, and the more recent GTS Power Control Grigio Speciale of 2018. The distinguishing features of the first models were their black dials with rosso corsa?or racing red accents, oversized numera
Introducing: The Enigmatic Ulysse Nardin Blast x Amoureuxpeintre
In what might be considered a surprising change of course, Ulysse Nardin announces its collaboration with Amoureuxpeintre, an edgy urban fashion designer who has been invited to reinterpret the Blast Skeleton X. Adopting the stark minimalism associated with Amoureuxpeintre's design philosophy, the grey monochromatic suit and blurry, frosted windows of the Blast Skeleton X give the watch an enigmatic, now-you-see-me now-you-don’t presence. This collaboration should not come as a surprise since Ulysse Nardin has always had its finger on the pulse of contemporary technology and trends. While its past as a purveyor of precision marine chronometers might be regarded as something relegated to the dusty annals of history, marine chronometers represented the height of technology in the mid-19th century. Moving into the 21st century, the brand's revolutionary Freak using silicon components marked a before and after in horology. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
A. Lange and Sohne Zeitwerk and Zeitwerk Striking Time - Full Review with live photos, specs and price - Monochrome-Watches
While the majority of the watches manufactured by A. Lange and Sohne are sharing that same Germanic feeling, a rigorous and meticulous attention to details with a certain warmth, some bits of originality that never fall into?ostentation (take a look at the Lange 1 and you’ll understand), a watch in the collection has to be seen as different, whether we’re talking about design or mechanics. However, we are not in front of the?The Ugly Duckling here. We’re not talking about a?piece that lays at the end?of the catalog and that is impossible to sell. No, we’re talking about the A. Lange and Sohne Zeitwerk AND?Zeitwerk Striking Time, two of the most complicated and desirable watches of the Saxonian brand. The A. Lange and Sohne ZeitwerkThe A. Lange and Sohne Zeitwerk is a piece that has to?be seen apart from the rest of the collection. It is indeed different both on a?mechanical and design approach, but not completely out of the range. It shares some of the iconic clu
Hands-On - Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork (Specs & Price)
Bianchet is a new horological independent watchmaker founded by Rodolfo and Emmanuelle Festa Bianchet, located in the Neuchatel area. Following a career in Fintech, the Festa Bianchet couple embarked on a new entrepreneurial project, following their passion and desire to create their own watches. On the occasion of the Geneva Watch Days, we were able to meet them and take a look at their first creation, the Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork. When presenting his first horological creation, Rodolfo Festa Bianchet immediately mentions his love for tonneau-shaped watches and his fascination for the work of the Italian mathematician Fibonacci and for the Golden Ratio (1.618). Their idea was to create a modern timepiece, applying the golden ratio to design not only the case (and its profile) but also the movement (shaping the different bridges).
