Introducing 3 New Code 11.59 Grande Sonnerie With Sapphire Dial
One of the few brands capable of crafting such a chiming watch, Audemars Piguet’s Grande Sonnerie mechanism is a patent display of the brand’s formidable mechanical prowess. Combine that with the brand‘s patented Supersonnerie technology and a carillon, and you’re looking at a remarkable chiming machine. Proud to reveal the complexity of the movement, the latest trilogy of Code 11.59 Grande Sonnerie Carillon Supersonnerie models has done away with the dial. Marking the debut of a sapphire crystal dial in the Code 11.59 collection, these three one-of-a-kind versions come in 41mm pink, yellow or white gold cases with sleek black ceramic case middles.?Grande Sonnerie Carillon SupersonneriePerhaps the highest complication of all, a Grande Sonnerie strikes the hours, every hour, and the number of hours and quarters on every quarter. Unlike minute repeaters that can chime the hours, quarters and minutes on demand, a Grand Sonnerie chimes the hours and quarters automat
Hands-On - 2021 Longines HydroConquest 41mm Two-Tone Collection
Longines has secured a solid reputation in the field of chronographs and elegant, vintage-inspired watches these days. Yet, we should not forget that the brand also has a sizeable collection of sports watches, including one competent, quite accessible diver’s watch named HydroConquest. First launched in 2007, the model has since made its way up in the category and was fully revised in 2018, with upgraded materials, a simplified design and strong mechanical credentials. This year, the collection expands again with the addition of 11 new editions. Stylish, less instrumental, a bit more lifestyle-oriented yet still robust dive watches to be used and abused, here is the Longines HydroConquest 41mm Two-Tone Collection.Longines is no stranger to the dive watch concept. Certainly, its pilot’s chronographs and elegant 1940s models might be the first to come to mind, but that would be without mentioning two extremely desirable models, the Skin Diver and the Legend Diver. But these a
Video: The Ulysse Nardin Freak, the watch that broke all conventions
The other day, we went to Switzerland to film one of the most important and influential watchmakers of the last few decades. It’s not a name that is on everyone’s tongue, but it actually should. Let’s look at this objectively… A watchmaker who created the most complex astronomical watches in times when computer-aided designing and calculations were not widely available. A watchmaker who created a watch that is like no other, that indicates hours with a main spring barrel that rotates once per 12 hours and the entire calibre is an in-line movement that hovers over the main spring barrel and rotates once every hour. However, it is important to mention that the latter was the very first watch to use silicon in its escapement. I’m talking about Ludwig Oechslin and the Ulysse Nardin Freak. Now I could go on about Ulysse Nardin’s Trilogy of Time, however, we didn’t go to film those masterpieces. Yes, these three watches (hence the trilogy) were incred
Oris Divers Sixty-Five Silver Dial - Hands-On Review (Specs & Price)
In a recent piece of news, Oris announced a new iteration for?the 42mm Divers Sixty-Five. While this model already exists in?blue or green, it now comes with a rather unexpected dial, which even if strongly playing on the usual vintage theme of the collection (and maybe even more now) is featuring?a silver color, something rather unusual for a dive watch. Well, this?Oris Divers Sixty-Five Silver Dial was clearly requiring to be seen in the metal (no press photo can give credits to a watch), something we did during the brand’s pre-Baselworld Preview where we already saw the?Oris Altimeter Rega Limited Edition. And believe us, it was necessary. If you are here, reading these lines, you must have already a certain interest in watches. Thus, you are probably already aware of the?Oris Divers Sixty-Five and most of its variations. And if not, here is a small reminder. The “65” was introduced at Baselworld 2015, in its black dial / 40mm version, as a modern interpretation of
Rado Golden Horse 1957 Limited Editions - Monochrome Watches
Most of us associate Rado with design-oriented watches and innovative materials, especially high-tech ceramic. Minimalist lines, sleek profiles and silky smooth ceramic cases and bracelets have defined much of the brand's portfolio since the 1990s. And then, during Baselworld 2017, Rado surprised us with a very convincing reinterpretation of a 1962 Captain Cook model complete with 300m diving credentials. Not only was the Captain Cook a vintage-inspired watch, but it was also a dive watch, two genres that not many of us would have anticipated from Rado. Reaching back even further into the brand's somewhat sketchy past, another golden oldie materialised with the resuscitation of a 1957 dress watch known as the Golden Horse. Resurfacing in 2019 with accurate vintage details but a contemporary automatic movement, there are now four models in the Golden Horse 1957 Limited Edition collection and we got our hands on three of them. From Schlup & Co. to RadoThe brand we know today as Rado s
