Antoine Pin, Managing Director of The Bvlgari Watch Division - Monochrome Watches
His more than 20 years of experience in the watch and jewellery industry have taken Antoine Pin around the world for Boucheron, Zenith, TAG Heuer and Bvlgari. On the occasion of the inauguration of brand's newest production site, the Bvlgari Manufacture d'Habillage, we sat down with the newly appointed Managing Director of the Bvlgari Watch Division to discuss his perspective on the brand's present and future. The Manufacture d'Habillage is where all the exterior components of a watch (cases, bracelets and dials) are produced under the same roof in Saignelegier in the Swiss Jura. This production site employs 125 people. The existing building has been completely refurbished and extended. The approach, which is quite uncommon in an industry that is often fragmented by trade typology, aims at bringing together closely related activities. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Baume HRS Limited Edition Automatic - When Richemont goes Microbrand-Like - Monochrome Watches
When you hear the word Baume, most would assume it's referring to Baume & Mercier, a popular luxury watch brand dating back to 1830 and now part of the Richemont Group. And they'd be partially correct. Baume is an offshoot of Baume & Mercier with Marie Chassot (Product Marketing Director for Baume & Mercier) coming in as the lead, along with several other executives from the parent company. Baume is, however, very much an independent company with different design philosophies and strategic guidance, and a strong focus on sustainability. Baume might be an entry-level brand among Richemont's more prestigious (and expensive) offerings, but there's a lot to like about its deep level of customization and a couple of special edition models. The one I'm reviewing today is its flagship HRS Limited Edition Automatic, a limited production regulator model with an interesting take on recycling. Baume calls it upcycling and its wooden case is made from a used skateboard deck, while the
Continuing our coverage of non-Swiss indepedent watchmakers.
Last week's article about indie watchmakers from all corners of the world showed that the industry doesn't solely revolve around Switzerland. And as a matter of fact, we've received some comments and did some more digging of our own and are turning it into a tryptic of articles, listing yet more watchmakers doing all sort of cool stuff. Some might be quite well-known, while others might be completely new to some of you. But that's the beauty of it, actually, and part of the reason why MONOCHROME exists in the first place. Without further ado, let's get started with Part II of the coolest non-Swiss independent watchmakers.Habring2 - AustriaOf course, we simply had to include Habring2, the Austrian-based indie watchmaking brand run by Richard and Maria Habring. We worked closely with the brand last year and presented our first-ever Montre de Souscription, which is a very proud moment for us. Richard Habring is well-known within the industry for developing the DoppelChronograph for IWC. O
2021 Longines Silver Arrow (Specs & Price)
With a continuous production of almost 200 years (founded 1832), Longines is one of the Swiss watch brands with the richest history. No wonder by its Heritage collection is filled with some of the coolest vintage-inspired watches currently on the market. The brand is a specialist of the genre, bringing retro-styled watches with modern features and mechanics. Today, the brand revives (again) one of its signature 1950s futuristic designs, a watch that was built when race cars and supersonic aeroplanes appealed to the imagination. Here’s the 2021 edition of the Longines Silver Arrow. The story of the Longines Silver Arrow goes back to 1955 when the brand held an in-house contest to find the name for a new timepiece with an avant-garde design. A name emerged that was based on one of the 450 proposals: Silver Arrow – a reference to the famous German sports cars that dominated the racing circuits of the era. The first Silver Arrow?was released by Longines in 1956. Back then, each
Introducing The Updated Code41 NB24 Chronograph Collection
CODE41 is a relatively new independent Swiss watchmaker that believes in sharing the creative process with watch enthusiasts, even calling its watches community projects. Founded in 2016 by watch designer Claudio D'Amore (from TAG Heuer and Montblanc), CODE41's portfolio is certainly unique with pieces like the T360 Tourbillon and Mecascape Sublimation One, which is both a pocket watch and desk clock. Prices are accessible for what's offered, and the latest NB24 Chronographs continue this with a new dial colour and case option for the existing NB24 series. ?NB24 is named after the brand's ambassador, paraplegic race driver Nigel Bailly, who competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021 (hence NB24). There are two case options: the existing NativeDNA in Grade 5 titanium, aka AeroCarbon, or the Stratom in Grade 5 titanium from the T360 Tourbillon line. The NativeDNA case is 42mm in diameter, while the Stratom is just a bit larger at 42.7mm, but both are 14.5mm in height. These are bold des
