Anthony de Haas on the Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar (Video) - Monochrome Watches
Those who have met Anthony de Haas, in real life that is, will never forget this brilliant and energetic Director of Product Development of A. Lange & Sohne. Anthony, or Tony for friends, knows watches inside out and has been in the lead for all new Lange watches that were introduced since 2004. During the recent digital Watches & Wonders we talked about the brand new Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar, how it was constructed, and about the Lange 31, the Grande Complication and the Triple Split; all that in a ‘dreary’ zoom-setting.While we, here at MONOCHROME, discussed the Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar, we see the addition of this complication as a pretty logical next step for the Lange 1 collection. And we also assumed it would be a fairly straightforward operation, to take the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, remove the tourbillon and replace it with a non-rotating regulating organ, et voila. But apparently, things are more complicated and we were actually not really
Watch of the Year 2017 with CH24.pl and the Special Jury Prize for #SpeedyTuesday - Monochrome Watches
For several years I've been a member of the jury of the Watch Of The Year in Poland, organised by our friends of CH24.pl. Last week was the gala award ceremony, as per usual held in the beautiful?Sobanski's Palace in Warsaw. Last year we celebrated the many prize winner, and especially the Gronefeld brothers who won no less than two prizes! This year the Special Jury Award went to a fellow Dutchman and that's #SpeedyTuesday founder Robert-Jan Broer.?This year was already the eight edition of the Polish Watch Of The Year,?always with a transparent set of rules and an international jury. While this might not be the Grand Prix de Horlogerie de Geneva (GPHG), one should not underestimate the importance of this award, as it is certainly a good indication of the most important watches of the year. This year no less than 60 timepieces had been pre-selected, in six different categories, and over 12,000 casted their votes for the Public Prize category! Ad - Scroll to continue with ar
Interview with Richard Krajicek - IWC's Friend of the Brand - Monochrome Watches
I think we don't have to explain the concept of brand ambassadors and that most high-end watch brands have a “few” celebrities that can be considered “Friend of the Brand. Globally IWC has quite a few friends of the brand, and also in every market there are some local friends of the brand. We had the chance to sit down with Richard Krajicek, former tennis champion who won Wimbledon in 1996, defeating Pete Sampras in the quarterfinals – Sampras' only defeat between 1993 and 2000! Krajicek retired from the ATP circuit in 2003 and in 2004 he became tournament director of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam. He also runs the Richard Krajicek Foundation, which builds sports facilities for children in inner-city areas in the Netherlands. That's why we think that Krajicek is the perfect brand ambassador for IWC. His own foundation and the Laureus Sports for Good foundation that IWC supports, show quite some resemblance. What was your first expensive timepi
The Collector's Series - Our Associate Editor Brice shares his passion for the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch - Monochrome-Watches
As watchmaking goes, there are only a select group of watches that fall into the Iconic' category. The omega Speedmaster is certainly one of them. The Speedmaster’s history goes back to 1957 with the reference CK 2915 (known as the “Broad Arrow”). It was designed by a Swiss gentleman by the name of Claude Baillod. The watch featured the triple-register chronograph layout, the high-contrast index markers, and the domed Plexiglas crystal. It was introduced as a sports and racing chronograph. The Collector Series once again travels to the effortlessly elegant city of Paris. In his first interview, Brice our Associate Editor and I discussed his stunning Breguet. On this occasion I thoroughly enjoyed finding out why is ref. 3870 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is so dear to his heart.Brice what is that attracted you to Omega as a brand? Many things, but I'd say that it's the Speedmaster that created my interest for Omega rather than the opposite. I guess I initially studied the
