Taking the Vertex M60 Aqualion for a real-world underwater test
If you're a watch enthusiast who likes a good story to go along with a good watch, chances are you have heard of the Dirty Dozen military watches. In case you haven't and don't feel like a deep dive on the subject, here is the short version: the Dirty Dozen is the colloquial name given to one watch, supplied by twelve different brands, to British military personnel in the Second World War. The production of a single specification for a watch had to be spread across many brands in order to meet the massive production demand of 150,000 watches. Those twelve brands run the gamut from names you definitely know, like Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, IWC, and Omega; to names you might know, like Buren, Cyma, Eterna, and Lemania; to names you might not know, like Grana, Record, Timor, and the one we are speaking of today: Vertex. But today isn’t about military watches. It’s about the M60 Aqualion.BackgroundVertex was originally founded in 1912 by a young Englishman named Claude Lyons,
Omega De Ville Tresor - More than Meets the Eye (Live Photos & Price) - Monochrome-Watches
Although it's best known for its sport models, Omega has always produced a large variety of timepieces that could be worn in almost any circumstance. During a visit at an?Omega Boutique, I was surprised to find that my attention wasn't focused on the timepieces I'm usually most impressed with. Yes, I saw the new Seamaster 300 in all its glory, I worshipped the Speedmaster once more, I was just torn apart by the Ploprof (happens to me almost every time, and then thoughts of selling a kidney come to mind). But what grasped my attention was a 40mm dress watch, luxurious but austere, well proportioned and so complete in every aspect: the Omega De Ville Tresor, a re-edition of a 1940's watch produced by Omega. Its ancestor, the archetypal Tresor, was an oversized watch (37,5mm) by the standards of the time, with a very simple 3-hand dial and a pink gold case. At its heart beat the legendary Calibre 30 (produced from 1939 up to 1963, in almost twenty variations). The Calibre 30 also became Om
Introducing: Hanhart Resuscitates its White Pilot with the 417 ES Moby Dick
Hanhart, the German brand that started life in Switzerland as a manufacturer of stopwatches before relocating to Germany in 1902, gained renown as a producer of Flieger (pilot's) chronographs. In the mid-1950s, Hanhart built the 417, the first pilot's chronograph for the German Armed Forces, with an emphasis on robustness, reliability, and readability. In circulation until 1963, the 417 was retired, allowing Hanhart to focus on stopwatches. But there was another lesser-known Hanhart 417 waiting in the wings, known among collectors as the Moby Dick. Identical in build to the 417 but with a white dial, the Moby Dick was adopted by admirals and doctors in the navy and, given its scarcity, had become a coveted collector's piece. The vintage watch that was used as an inspiration for the new 417 ES Moby DickIn 2020, Hanhart reissued the legendary 417 pilot's chronograph. While the case and dial faithfully respected many traits of its ancestor, the modern version of the Hanhart 417 ES reflecte
