Gronefeld Parallax Tourbillon with new Steel Hammered (Tremblage) Dials - Monochrome Watches
What a difference a dial?makes! When Gronefeld unveiled the Parallax Tourbillon in 2014, it was the third watch produced by the Horological Brothers, Bart and Tim Gronefeld. After the GTM-06 (Gronefeld Tourbillon Minute Repeater) and the One Hertz, they wanted to showcase a large tourbillon. One that would hover over the dial, or at least on the same level as the dial, so it would have all spotlights on the perpetual dance of a tourbillon. With the new tremblage dials, the emphasis is still on the large tourbillon, while the dial showcases the masterful art of hand-made tremblage.?Let’s say the large tourbillon has gotten an even better backdrop. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the other dial options aren’t very nice. They are! Especially the salmon colour dial looks incredibly good, and like everything coming from Gronefeld, the quality is absolutely sublime. The new tremblage dial is again another showcase of what the two brothers can do, and how incre
Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral - Reviewing an Understated Masterpiece (Photos, Specs and Price) - Monochrome-Watches
We’ve been reviewing what is arguably the most understated wrist watch. We’re used to explaining high prices to people when they spot something extravagant on our wrist. In this case it was more difficult to explain, until the watch was?turned over to?show?that stunning?movement, featuring a tourbillon with double spiral. While the average watch-person (is that a word?) hardly understands what a tourbillon is, or does, try explaining a tourbillon with two spirals, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. However the Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral holds so much more to?justifiy its price. Ultimate refinement, the epitome of a dress watch, and understated to the max.?My wrist has had the pleasure of wearing… err… testing the most phenomenal timepieces of modern times. Whether it be the outgoing Roger Dubuis Pulsion Skeleton Flying Tourbillon, the quirky Hautlence HL Ti, or the mighty Lange & Sohne Double Split, the classy
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph 5500V with Calibre 5200 - Review, live photos & price - Monochrome Watches
Well, trying to hide the actual?fact that we literally felt in love with the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection, introduced during the SIHH 2016, will be rather difficult. We already showed you the?classical?edition, the?Vacheron Constantin Overseas Automatic 4500V – the sort of entry-level edition – and we continued our journey with the ultra-luxurious but really desirable one, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ultra-thin ref. 2000V with Calibre 1120. However, in this collection, there’s more: a masculine and sporty chronograph, which besides these attributes keeps the same features as the rest of the collection: new in-house movement, Geneva Seal, refined look and versatility. Overview of the?Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph 5500V with Calibre 5200.What is the?Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph 5500V with Calibre 5200? Well, in all transparency, it is a sports watch. Yes, of course it is. If you look closely, it has everything a sport watch sho
Introducing the Romain Jerome Skylab - Monochrome Watches
Romain Jerome can be quite a polarizing brand. Even here at the Monochrome offices – all of us die-hard watch aficionados – we don’t share the same enthusiasm about the various RJ timepieces. However Romain Jerome’s newest creation can count on many “yaes”, leaving the “nays” well behind. No dial, a fully skeletonized movement and the iconic case with four struts grabbing the bezel. And now the diameter has been reduced to a very agreeable 44 mm, we believe that Romain Jerome hit the jackpot. What Romain Jerome has taught us, is that we do not have to take watches too serious. Most of his timepieces are equipped with an ETA/Valjoux 7750 (or similar) movement, which is a very strong and reliable movement that also used throughout the industry (for instance by IWC, Breitling and TAG Heuer). The real work goes into the design of the case, dial, hands and these parts set RJ apart from the rest. When we saw the new Skylab models, we were pretty
Event Report - Behind The Scenes With Tissot at The Tour de France
Pain, passion, glory The Tour de France is widely considered the most prestigious and most difficult cycling race. 3,350 kilometres are being raced in 2022, split up over 21 days of racing. Every detail counts in this challenging competition between 176 riders, and, against time. Cycling fans all remember the 1989 Greg LeMond victory over Laurent Fignon, by just 8 seconds, the smallest ever in the history of the Tour de France: timekeeping is essential to the dream of racing cyclists. Tissot has been involved in a range of cycling events for over 50 years and, as the official timekeeper of the Tour de France, the brand plays an essential role in the captivating narrative that unfolds every summer. We were lucky enough to be invited for a formidable weekend in Lausanne, to go behind-the-scenes of timekeeping at the Tour de France 2022.Yours truly participating (above) – below: inside Le Tour, a unique opportunity to ride the last 50 kilometres of Tour de France 2022 Stage 8, with
