IWC Da Vinci Automatic Edition 150 years IW358102 - Pre-SIHH 2018 Hands-On (Specs & Price)
As you've no doubt seen or heard already, IWC Schaffhausen is turning 150 next year and we're told the Swiss watch manufacturer has some pretty major celebrations planned. These include the unveiling of a special Jubilee collection at SIHH 2018, comprising an astonishing 27 limited-edition models. Among them will be this beautifully refined IWC Da Vinci Automatic Edition 150 Years we're looking at today.Unusually for a Swiss watch brand, IWC was not established by European or English founders, but rather by an American watchmaking pioneer named Florentine Ariosto Jones. By creating his company in Schaffhausen in 1868, Mr. Jones sought to combine skilled Swiss craftsmanship with American manufacturing technology to create the best pocket watches of his time. First-Half 2018 Results of LVMH Watches and Jewelry Division On The Rise - Monochrome Watches
Today, just after the closing of the Paris Stock Exchange, luxury powerhouse LVMH (Louis Vuitton?Mo?t Hennessy) announced its?First-Half 2018 results. After showing strong results at the end of the year 2017, the group continues its progression, both in terms of sales and profitability. As for the Watches and Jewelry Division, the brands under portfolio follow the same trend, with a strong growth again for sales and profits.Overall LVMH, the leading luxury group in the world, continues to impress with a substantial increase of its sales – over €21 billion and a +10% increase compared to the same period in 2017 – and of its profits – with over 27% of growth compared to the first half of 2017. While its position is far from being rivaled by its competitors, LVMH once again proves that luxury isn’t dead and that sales are on the rise all over the world, and for most segments of the luxury market – wines, fashion, leather goods, watches and jewellery and selec
The New RJ Arraw Chronograph 45mm - The New Era of Romain Jerome - Monochrome Watches
It's official. Romain Jerome has been rebranded as RJ and made its debut at Baselworld 2018 with the new Arraw collection, its first line of men's and women's watches that will set the tone of things to come. A derivation of the Titanic DNA and Moon Dust models, the Arraw line is poised to become the building block for future developments and was assembled by the new RJ team in a record time of just two months. Having looked at the 45mm Arraw chronograph closely and strapped it on the wrist, the overall impression at MONOCHROME was that the watch is a less rambunctious, more contained and wearable offshoot of its predecessors. The foundationsFounded in 2004, Romain Jerome deployed successful shock and awe' tactics with its steampunk aesthetics and materials sourced from the oddest places on Earth including the hull of the rusting Titanic, fragments of Apollo 11, moon dust and even debris from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland. Playing the millennial card to great advantage, Romain
Omega Explains the Co-Axial Escapement - Monochrome Watches
Who doesn’t know about Omega’s co-axial escapement? I guess everyone who has an above average interest in (mechanical) watches has heard about the ‘co-axial escapement’. It’s been 14 years since Omega launched their first timepiece featuring the co-axial escapement that was?invented (in 1974) and patented (in1980) by the English master watchmaker, George Daniels. Yes that’s the same George Daniels of the book we recommended yesterday.?In 1999, at the Baselworld watch fair, Omega announced a new watch for the DeVille line: chronometer rated and it was a limited edition. This DeVille was the first timepiece featuring the co-axial escapement that Omega?they bought from George Daniels, and the movement was caliber 2500. This DeVille was limited to 1,000 pieces in yellow gold, 1,000 pieces in red gold and 100 pieces in platinum, like the one below (personally I’m crazy about watches with a salmon/copper dial). Weekly Watch Photo - Tudor Submariner ref.7928 - Monochrome Watches
The last few years,?vintage?Tudor Submariners are becoming more popular amongst watch collectors. This Submariner ref.7928 is actually one of my favorite vintage dive watches and that’s a good reason to select this gorgeous photo as Monochrome’s Weekly Watch Photo. Bert, a.k.a. De Horlogefotograaf, made the photo below and I’m amazed to see?such a?remarkable composition that somehow works perfect. A watch in a pile of coffee beans might not be a classic watch photo, although seeing how beautiful the gilt dial looks between the coffe beans might just change this. Ad - Scroll to continue with article Early examples of ref. 7928 feature?a so-called?‘chapter dial’ where a inner ring is printed on the dial a few milimeters from the edge, connecting the minute markers. This particular Tudor Submariner ref. 7928 is a Mk.II with gilt track
