Just Because: Audemars Piguet Unveils an Unprecedented Camouflage Gold Alloy
Earlier this year, alongside multiple new watches such as the RO Perpetual with John Mayer and the Sand Gold alloy applied to an RO Openworked Tourbillon, Audemars Piguet also presented an unexpected and entirely novel multi-coloured ceramic called chroma ceramic featuring a polarising but cool camouflage pattern. In the same vein, Audemars Piguet now applies this concept to a gold alloy, a first for the industry. Called chroma gold, this camouflage gold alloy is bold and unconventional, but what is fascinating is that we’re not looking at a coating: it’s solid camouflage gold. And in a way, it is genuinely cool – or at least highly creative. The chroma camouflage ceramic concept, presented in a prototype Royal Oak offshore (not yet commercialised) In its more recent history, Audemars Piguet has shown great audacity in its use of innovative and unconventional materials. Already in 1972, AP was ahead of its time using stainless steel for its luxur
OPINION - Joining Forces For The Best? The Tudor / Breitling Mechanical Alliance
Prior to Baselworld 2017, at their annual pre-Basel event, Tudor unveiled the new Black Bay Chronograph. The first thought of?the crowd of journalists present (us included) was?“in-house chronograph movement!” The excitement lasted for less than 5 minutes however, as the announcement was quickly followed?by?the official disclaimer. Indeed, despite the?“MT” nomenclature, this movement is not produced by Tudor, but rather by Breitling, which soon after, announced the launch of a?new 3-hand movement, based on a… Tudor calibre. The question is, is this a good thing or not? It looks like?we’re going to find out with the new Tudor / Breitling alliance. The “in-house” debateBefore going into the details of this recently announced?Tudor / Breitling Mechanical Alliance, it’s worth taking a look back at the notion of “in-house” or “manufacture”, which has been one of the main trends of the last 10 / 15 years. If you’re thinking of an elegant, discreet watch, with a certain old-school dandy feel, the Master collection by Jaeger-LeCoultre has plenty of candidates.? We’ve seen multiple models in the past – QP, Moon, or even the cool Sector Dial editions – and they all share that understated, clean, thin, non-showy elegance that makes them timeless. Sober yet complex! The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master is not a ‘show-offy’ collection. Sobriety is the operative word here and is, in fact, part of its charm. Some will find it slightly void of interest, however, for many, it is a watch that reflects their elegance and discreet style. A bit like those old Jaguar sedans, which were far less exuberant than Italian coupes and less powerful than German cars, but nevertheless far more charming. Appealing in its sobriety

Hands-on - MeisterSinger Phanero - Baselworld 2016 (live pics & price)
When you think MeisterSinger, you certainly have to think single-hand / mono-aiguille kind of watches – ?only one?single hand that displays the time, in a slow and not-so-precise way, which actually brings a certain?charm to these watches. This is what?MeisterSinger is good at – besides being an interesting and affordable proposition for watch lovers in a need of something different. For Baselworld 2016, the brand came up with their smallest, simplest, so-to-say the purest watch they probably ever had. Here is the?MeisterSinger Phanero, with thin hand-wound movement and revamped design. The collection of?MeisterSinger is built?around one single axis, as all of their watches, whether they have complications or not, have one hand that displays the time. No differentiation of the hours and minutes here. One single hand rotates around the dial in 12 hours, running on a track with 5-minute segments. Thus, we can’t call?MeisterSinger watches precise ones – in terms of
