MONOCHROME Wishes You a Splendid 2021 - Monochrome Watches
2020… What a year… what a year! Both on a professional as well as on a personal level this was a bizarre year, and not only due to that nasty Corona pandemic that is terrorizing humankind. Politics also reared its most ugly head on various sides of the globe and Baselworld, an old watch institution, fell apart. And let’s not forget the extreme fires that raged in Australia at the beginning of the year. What a year…?Usually when looking back at a year, it’s easy to focus on the best, coolest, most novel and most interesting watches that we’ve seen in a year. But this year is different. Of course, MONOCHROME is here to entertain you with news, reviews and in-depth stories from the world of watches. We, or actually I, cannot look at this year only from that perspective. 2020 started in the midst of the extreme bushfires that raged through Australia and we, like most of our online colleagues and many watch brands, supported the Watch & Act! It was 40 years ago... the first automatic chronograph - Monochrome Watches
40 Years ago, on 3 March 1969, the first automatic chronograph movement was introduced. This movement,?nick-named Chronomatic, was developed by a joint venture of Heuer, Breitling, Buren and Dubois-Depraz. The Chronomatic was used by Heuer, Breitling and Buren under the name of caliber 11.Cover of Swiss Watch and Jewelry Journal – nr.2 1969It actually started with the development of a HMS (hours, minutes, seconds) movement that got it’s power from a micro-rotor! This caliber, also called Intramatic, won the Prix d’Honneur at the 1964 Swiss National Exposition in Lausanne. A year later the micro-rotor was further refined i
Hands-on Konstantin Chaykin Mars Conqueror MK3 (Price)
On February 18th 2021 history was made, when Nasa's Perseverance Rover landed in the Jezero Crater on the surface of Mars, the Red Planet. With this monumental feat of engineering, mankind is perhaps one step closer to interplanetary travel and colonization of Mars. It will most likely take decades for that to actually happen as interplanetary travel is extremely risky, time-consuming, and above all; expensive. But as we're gearing up for the next chapter in space exploration, and the development of commercial space flights, we need a suitable timing instrument of course. Konstantin Chaykin, Russian watchmaker extraordinaire, has developed a watch that keeps track of time both on Earth, and on Mars, and we've gotten our hands on it for a little while. It's not the first time we've covered this watch but we have had the chance to check it out in real life a couple of weeks ago. And since handling such a piece is a special occasion, especially with live events being few and far between du

Dutch citizens and their pride, all wrapped in?orange… That’s something few can understand but I have to say, I do. At the same time, in 1985, TAG?purchased Swiss watchmaker Heuer – then becoming TAG Heuer.
