Introducing: The Monochromatic Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Essential Grey
We’ve been raving on and on about the profound use of colour within the watchmaking industry these past couple of months (and years). And yes, there have been countless vibrant, expressive and often quite cool and colourful watches, but what if you’re in the market for something a little less bright and eye-popping? What if you’re looking for something more, let’s say, monochromatic but still want it fit for summer? You’re in luck, as Hublot has just presented a lightweight titanium version of its Spirit of Big Bang in toned-down full-grey attire. This is the new and limited Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Essential Grey.Hublot’s watches are never shy of showing off what they are, as more often than not, the brand likes to play around with colours, textures and materials. The most talked-about chronograph watches of the Geneva Watch Week
Outside of Watches & Wonders 2022, there was plenty more going on in the heart of Geneva. While close to 40 brands exhibited at the Palexpo complex, several other brands were present at Time to Watches or the Masters of Horology venues in the city, or even spread around some of the lakeside hotels. With so many new watches being presented, we take a look at some of the most talked-about chronographs presented during what we labelled the Geneva Watch Week.Jacob & Co Jean BugattiJacob & Co is known for over-the-top, ultra-complex watchmaking spectacles, yet the new Jean Bugatti Chronograph feels, different. It is still an extremely complex watch but with a more restrained exterior. The innovative double retrograde chronograph is paired with a twin-flying tourbillon escapement. The chronograph display is quite different from traditional ones, with a dashboard-like design. The elapsed seconds are shown by a pair of retrograde hands, indicating the tens and single units. Rewind - Video, Inside the Omega Master Chronometer METAS Lab
This was three years ago already but what a special day… Back then, Omega had announced its Master Chronometer certification. Created in collaboration with independent Federal Institute of Metrology METAS, the Master Chronometer certification was one of the most advanced and stringent certification processes in watchmaking. Yet, no one had ever been allowed to bring a camera inside the laboratory, until we did, in March 2017. And because of that, we decided to produce one of our most in-depth videos, a proper 24-minute documentary where you’ll be able to discover exactly how Omega has managed to become one of the leaders in precision and anti-magnetism.?While some brands focus on complexity and traditional watchmaking – compiling as many complications as possible into a single movement – Omega chose a different path, the pursuit of the best possible movement for daily use, a movement that will perform to the same high level in every situation, in every environme
Interview - Davide Cerrato of Montblanc On The Brand and What's Coming Next
We're in Switzerland quite often – according to my wife, who keeps track, I've spent a quarter of last year in the land of watchmaking. Whether for the videos that we make, or events organised by watch brands, or manufacture visits, or the GPHG award night, it always means you're meeting a lot of people from the watch industry and the opportunity of running into friends. Recently I met with my good friend Davide Cerrato, Managing Director Of Montblanc Watch Division, and we talked about how things are at Montblanc, what's going to happen at Goodwood and more.Davide Cerrato, Managing Director Of Montblanc Watch DivisionHere's a recap of the talk we had, just outside the EPHJ, seated on a bench in the sun. The weather was great, birds were singing and it was nice to run into Davide and have the opportunity to get an update of how things have been going since we last saw one another in January at the SIHH (in this video interview).Frank Geelen (FG): In January, Montblanc presented i
Introducing: The Tasty Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Spider Salmon
The recently revived Nivada Grenchen brand offers five collections that draw inspiration from its glorious past. The new Nivada watches stay true to the original aesthetics while incorporating modern Swiss movements, cases, and sapphire glass. They remain accessible, with a significant portion of the collection priced below EUR 1,000. Following the success of the relaunched Antarctic Spider model featuring a very quirky and original dial design, the company strengthened its offer. It has just revealed a new and enthralling timepiece, the Antarctic Salmon Spider, with a (surprise, surprise) salmon-coloured dial.Nivada, founded by Jacob Schneider and partners in Grenchen, Switzerland, in 1926, faced a fate common among Swiss watch brands in the 1970s and fell victim to the aftermath of the collapse of the Bretton-Wood monetary system and the quartz crisis. However, a stroke of luck awaited the brand when it was relaunched in 2020 by Guillaume Laidet, who had previously sold his successfu
