40mm or 35mm...? The Two Sizes Of The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Compared
To say that the Tissot PRX is a success would be an understatement. It is a massive hit, and for obvious reasons. Besides the overall very decent quality of the watch, combined with an accessible price, it’s mostly its style that made it so popular… The flair of the 1970s, the luxury sports watch look, the integrated design, a powerful and reliable movement and the resemblance with some of the most iconic watches (but clearly unattainable) of the category. It has it all. But the only mechanical option, up until recently, was undoubtedly on the large side. Problem (partially…) solved, as we now have the new Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 35mm. Is it perfect? Which model should you choose? We compare the 35mm and 40mm Tissot PRX to help you decide. Spoiler alert: it’ll be a hard choice! For many years, the concept of the luxury sports watch – refined, high-end watches (mostly) in stainless steel with a matching and integrated steel bracelet and thin movements, as f
Introducing The Norqain Freedom 60 Chrono 40mm Ice Blue Limited Edition
We've looked at Norqain many times since its 2018 founding as the Swiss watches are both well thought and aesthetically pleasing, especially for such a young brand. It's no surprise as part of the team behind Norqain came from Breitling, including founder Ben Kuffer. The Freedom 60 Chrono was an early success with a bold 43mm case, but a more universal 40mm Chrono launched last year and has been a highlight of the brand. Norqain is now releasing a limited edition of the 40mm chronograph with an ice blue dial that should please fans of the prior models.?The stainless steel case hasn't changed, but there was no reason to modify this more compact Freedom 60 Chrono, a relatively new and best-selling design. As the name implies, it's 40mm in diameter with a height of 14.9mm (lug-to-lug is 49.2mm). A box-type AR sapphire crystal protects the dial and provides retro distortions at angles, while a sapphire exhibition case back displays the Sellita-based automatic. The case is polished with som
The Collector's Series: Bringing The Light On The Unusual Patek Philippe Neptune
When you think about sporty Patek Philippe watches in stainless steel with aquatic references, names such as Nautilus and Aquanaut will be at the centre of the conversation. Both iconic models, both highly coveted, both around for several decades. But there's another watch that completes the trilogy. A watch that is much rarer and far less conventional. Still, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and Gaurav Rekhi (@HighendTime on Instagram), a long-time Patek Philippe admirer, perfectly summarises this. Although he loves his Nautilus and his Aquanaut, it's his Patek Philippe Neptune 5085 he highlights for our Collector's Series.Frank Geelen, MONOCHROME – How did you personally get introduced to the brand??Gaurav Rekhi –?You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation is what the ad said, and I, being a young banker on Wall Street in the summer of 1998, was completely hooked.? Like many other lovers of horology, this was my first in
Introducing Ulysse Nardin Ocean Race Diver Chronograph Limited
The provenance of Ulysse Nardin might be a small, landlocked country, but thanks to its marine chronometers, the brand from Le Locle has always been closely associated with the sea since 1846. By the 1870s, Ulysse Nardin supplied more than 50 navies and merchant marine companies with precision marine deck chronometers. Today, the brand underscores its maritime credentials as the official timing partner of the exciting Ocean Race. Regarded as the longest (60,000 km) and toughest round-the-world team sailing challenge since 1973, the 14th edition of The Ocean Race kicked off in Alicante, Spain, in January 2023. Docking in nine cities around the globe over six months and finishing in Genoa in June, the teams have embarked on their fifth leg from Newport, Rhode Island, to Aarhus, Denmark. Taking advantage of the pit stop in Rhode Island and celebrating The Ocean Race’s 50th anniversary, Ulysse Nardin unveiled a 100-piece edition of its Ocean Race Diver Chronograph. The Ocean RaceOrigi
The Golden Auro Of The Rado DiaStar Original Skeleton
Rado is synonymous with innovative materials, and the DiaStar, introduced in 1962, paved the way as the world's first scratchproof watch made from an ultra-resilient hard metal in a futuristic oval case. Renowned as the Master of Materials', Rado's competency today lies in high-tech ceramic cases and bracelets. To celebrate the DiaStar's grand 60th birthday, the watch was given a gleaming composite Ceramos suit last year and also materialised in a contemporary skeletonised edition. Today, Rado takes a page from its 1970s playbook and launches a flamboyant yellow gold-coloured DiaStar with a mirror-like golden Ceramos bezel and an openworked dial. The DiaStar was a child of the 1960s with its futuristic flying saucer case and round porthole over the dial. Almost like a helmet, the sloping flanks of the case were enormous and gave the watch its distinctive personality. Marketed as the first scratch-resistant watch made with carbide tungsten and fitted with a sapphire crystal - an innovati
