Take my breath away! IWC booth at SIHH 2012 - Monochrome Watches
It’s probably no surprise that the brands exposing at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, or short SIHH, are competitors. What is maybe not as well-known is that during this show the biggest competition is not about watches. It’s about the booth! In 1986, a movie turned a famous actor into a worldwide super star. Tom Cruise was playing the role of a young and talented fighter pilot joining the elite Navy fighter Weapon School based in Miramar, north of San Diego, in California. This school is world famous under its nickname: Top Gun! Ad - Scroll to continue with article If you ever get the chance to pilot a jet aircraft, this is great, no it’s spectacular. Introducing: The Return of the Triton Spirotechnique Dive Watch
While the Submariner, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and Omega Seamaster ruled the 1950s enthusiast and military diving scene, it was the Triton Spirotechnique in 1963 that briefly became the most expensive dive watch of its times, although never the best known. It was developed for the Spirotechnique company (Aqualung), founded by oceanographer/filmmaker/French naval officer Jacques Cousteau in 1946, and was used by both American and French navy divers. Like many watchmakers, the brand didn't survive the Quartz Crisis in the 1970s, but was revived in 2015 by a pair of watch enthusiasts.?The Triton Spirotechnique Classic Black (applied markers)The original Triton Spirotechnique was developed by a retired French Air Force colonel, Jean Rene Parmentier, who developed the protected (and patented) 12 o'clock crown system, shrouded by an articulating lug. The watch was manufactured in France by Dodane and sold in Spirotechnique dive shops (now named Aqualung) alongside professional diving equipm
Introducing Alpina Startimer Pilot Heritage Manufacture Bumper Calibre
Swiss manufacturer Alpina, now owned by the Citizen Group alongside Frederique Constant, has a rich history. Founded in 1883, the brand made a name for itself with its robust tool watches under the name Alpina 4 and has also been the source of numerous patents and innovative calibres over the years. Today, the brand pays tribute to a vintage piece, but in a rather unusual way. We’re not specifically talking about a vintage-inspired watch, but something extremely rare: a vintage-inspired movement. Housed in the brand’s classic Startimer Pilot Heritage is a new manufacture calibre equipped with… a bumper winding system. Let’s take a closer look at this new and surprising model. The comeback of the bumper movementThe bumper movement has been important in the development of the automatic watch. As you know, automatic watches primarily rely on an oscillating weight that rotates on top of the movement and, thanks to its inertia, transfers its energy to the movementR
Hands-On - 2021 Zenith Chronomaster Original 38mm (Live Pics & Price)
For long, the name Chronomaster has been associated at Zenith with an El Primero-powered (what else…) classic chronograph, without an external bezel, often with tri-colour sub-dials and available either in 42mm or in an even more desirable, historically relevant 38mm diameter, inspired by the legendary A386 model of 1969. This very watch was, however, discontinued when the attractive Chronomaster Sport was introduced earlier this year. But this slightly larger and more modern take on the El Primero wasn’t meant to be a replacement. Indeed, the classic 38mm, bezel-less Chronomaster is back, with more modern mechanics and a powerful vintage-inspired design. Here is the Zenith Chronomaster Original, the revamped 38mm El Primero and the successor to the A386 watch.?Inspired by the A386The name “A386” will certainly resonate in the mind of vintage watch lovers as one of the most emblematic models ever to be produced by the Le Locle-based manufacture. It is the most i
