Buying Guide: The World of Complicated Chronographs
Dive watches, pilot watches or luxury sports watches are some of the most popular types of watches, but when it comes to complications, the chronograph probably reigns supreme. However, even in the field of chronograph watches, there are a lot of differences to be found! With that in mind, we go beyond simple manual and automatic chronographs and dissect seven complex ways to measure elapsed time.MONOPUSheR – Cartier Tortue monopoussoir chronographWe start things simple, in looks at least, with the monopoussoir?or monopusher chronograph. The name is pretty self-explanatory, as a monopusher chronograph uses a single button to start, stop and reset the chronograph function. We’ve gone for the lovely Cartier Tortue Monopusher, modelled after one of the most coveted vintage watches from the Collection Privee Cartier Paris collection. The calibre 1928 MC follows the shape of the case beautifully, and the watch is worn on an alligator leather strap (as it should be). Available in

Introducing: Steel-and-Gold and Gradient Dials for the Longines Spirit Flyback
Presented last year by Longines as the flagship model in its recent pilot-oriented collection, the Spirit Flyback paid tribute to an important function for the brand, the retour-en-vol chronograph. While the authorship of the flyback complication is a topic that is still discussed, the winged hourglass brand produced its first model equipped with a flyback function in 1925, then filed a patent which was registered on 16 June 1936. As the top of the range model in the Spirit collection, this large and higher-end chronograph now comes back in two warm and luxurious versions, mixing steel and gold, with green or brown tones.?Just like the?Spirit Zulu Time has to be seen as the bigger brother of the classic 3-hand models, the same could be said about the Spirit Flyback next to the classic automatic chronograph. A sportier take on the brand’s vision of a classic, highly precise pilot’s watch, this 42mm model features an external rotating bezel, something that the classic chronog
Longines HydroConquest 41mm Two-Tone Collection 2021
It is the solidity and accessibility of the Longines HydroConquest watch that lends itself as such a useful tool for amateur and professional divers. That said, the robust yet classically designed watches from this collection are more than at ease on dry land too. The Saint-Imier-based manufacturer first launched the HydroConquest watch in 2007 but redesigned it in 2018 with colour-coordinated dials and ceramic bezels in black, blue or grey, an improved movement, two case sizes of 41mm or 43mm, and a metal bracelet or rubber strap option. Since then, Longines has also released an all-black ceramic model and a green dial/bezel version. Now Longines extends the HydroConquest watch collection with a series of two-tone versions available in steel and yellow gold PVD or steel and rose gold PVD. These green, blue, black and grey dial colour options are only available in the 41mm case size but come equipped with a movement promising an extended power reserve.A robust, modern caseUnlike the Lo
Introducing The Oris x Bracenet A Special Edition Of The Aquis Date
Oris has been embracing sustainable materials for years, such as with the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle back in 2021 or the Dat Watt series. The brand also has a comprehensive sustainability report from 2022 that details many efforts to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable world. A partnership with the social enterprise Bracenet has brought new upcycled dials from ghost fishing nets, which are debuting in the Oris X Bracenet. Benjamin Wenke and Madeleine von Hohenthal, founders of Bracenet, recycle these abandoned fishing nets that wreak havoc in the world's oceans, creating bracelets, bags, keychains and now watch dials. The two Oris X Bracenet special editions of the Aquis Date are differentiated by size, 43.5mm and 36.5mm in diameter, and both are 316L stainless steel. They're otherwise aesthetically identical with unidirectional rotating bezels and grey ceramic inserts, partial crown guards and screw-down crowns. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial
