VIntage Corner - How To Collect Vintage Omegas, A Talk with Petros Protopapas
The appetite for vintage timepieces has grown at a rapid pace over the past few years. Collecting vintage watches can be a fantastic hobby but there are pitfalls to avoid. The pre-owned and vintage watch market is a jungle. The quality and authenticity of what you are buying are key. Many watches have endured quite some action over their lifetime and there are also many scams. The integrity of timepieces needs to be maintained over time. Take good care of your watches and make sure these are serviced the right way. Replacement parts need to be original.?This is what we’ll talk about today with Omega’s Head of Brand Heritage.“The Omega certificate of authenticity?aims at bringing confidence to collectors”To help people navigate the vintage market, several brands supply extracts from their archives. These archives provide production details and the period of production of a watch without having to send it to the brand. To enhance transparency in the pre-owned mark
Tudor Heritage Black Bay with Blue Bezel ref. 79220B (Live photos & price) - Monochrome Watches
A few weeks ago, we gave our thoughts on the possible Tudor 2014 novelties. We knew, within the team, that blue was the big crush for the aficionados of the brand and linked to the past of Tudor. We were craving for a blue Pelagos and instead, Tudor comes with a blue bezel Heritage Black Bay, a simple but really nice looking declination of the previous model that you're used to find in burgundy. Let us introduce the NEW Tudor Heritage Black Bay ref. 79220B.The Tudor Heritage Black Bay is a tribute to the past of the Tudor Company, especially to the 1954 Submariner ref. 7922. It brings back the idea of diving watches made by Tudor, with a reinterpretation of the case, dial and - of course - snowflake hands. If you look at the brand’s history, you will notice a famous and really appealing model, the blue Submariner Marine Nationale ref. 9401 (you can find the picture at the end of the article). Delivered to the French Navy, those watches featured a blue bezel and dial and snowflake
First Look: Roger Dubuis Knights of the Round Table, the Omniscient Merlin Edition
Roger Dubuis, the “Hyper Horology brand” (as it calls itself), has embraced a Middle Ages myth since 2013 with the launch of its Knights of the Round Table series, crafting several metier d’art pieces since. The first edition featured 12 intricately engraved micro-sculptures of the legendary knights, their swords drawn and pointing towards the centre. Cast in gold, the knights served as hour indices on a dial resembling the green and white Winchester Round Table, made of hand-painted enamel for the first edition, while the second (2015) featured a black jade dial with detailed engravings and patination, and the 12 knights cast in bronze. The collection took an interesting turn with the release of the Knights of the Round Table III (2018). Here, while still static, the knights were sculpted with polygonal facets reminiscent of video game heroes and arranged around a table crafted from sculpted gold and translucent blue enamel.Later editions introduced a dynamic twist &
Panerai Luminor Marina Fibratech 44mm PAM01163 - Specs & Price
Panerai's ‘Laboratorio de Idee’ has been a platform to explore and innovate regarding materials, today a field of expertise for the brand. The latest addition to the portfolio of high-tech materials is Fibratech, made from mineral fibres produced by the fusion of basalt rock. Meet the Panerai Luminor Marina Fibratech?PAM01163.Fibratech?is a composite material based on basalt rock fibres. Thin layers are superimposed in a precise orientation and then consolidated through a process where pressure and temperature are controlled. The matrix to bind this reinforcement together is a polymer. This creates a non-homogenous matte grey appearance with random pattern depending on the cut. From a technical perspective, Fribatech is 60% lighter than steel, resilient and highly resistant to corrosion. An appropriate material for such a large diver’s watch.
