Our recap of the Geneva Watch Days through 5 watches
We’ve just finished bombarding you with news coming from Switzerland’s capital of watchmaking, Geneva, for the entire week as the 2022 edition of Geneva Watch Days returned to the shores of Lac Leman. And it’s perfectly understandable if, at some point, you felt overwhelmed by it all as there were more than 20 brands participating in this year’s celebration of watchmaking. All this meant more watches, appointments and moments of sheer joy seeing and handling novelties. So with that in mind, here’s a retrospective of the event through five watches we feel really stood out!BUlgari Octo FInissimo Skeleton 8 DaysWe’ve said it in the hands-on article we published early this week, and we’ll happily repeat it: the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Skeleton 8 Days might not be a record-breaking entry in the Octo Finissimo saga, but it is a very imposing watch nonetheless. The signature square case, this time around constructed in rose gold with a 40mm diameter an
Introducing: Longines Conquest Chronograph Marco Odermatt Limited Edition
Longines teams up with skiing champion Marco Odermatt for a limited edition of its Conquest Chronograph. Registered by Longines in 1954, the Conquest was the first product family of the brand, a serially produced model evolving from the robust waterproof wristwatches designed for French Polar Expeditions with a screw-down caseback. Revisited on its 60th anniversary in the Heritage collection, the model we are looking at today corresponds to the revamped Conquest collection undertaken earlier this year. Designed with Marco Odermatt, the limited-edition Conquest Chronograph consolidates Longines’ longstanding association with alpine skiing. Thanks to Longines’ first chronograph model of 1878, the brand has a long track record as a sporting events timer and, in 1924, provided the timekeeping equipment for a military ski race. Today, Longines is the main partner of the International Ski Federation (FIS) and the Official Timekeeper for the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and FIS World C
Pre-Baselworld 2019 - Anonimo Nautilo Vintage - More Retro-Styled and Smaller (Specs & Price)
A brand built on the ashes of the Italian branch of Panerai, founded by a naval engineer and former head of the aforementioned watchmaker, is obligated to have a dive watch in the collection. For over 12 years now, the Nautilo has been part of the Anonimo line-up, interpreted in various guises - see here,?here or here. New for 2019 and launched as a preview to Baselworld is a more retro – or vintage-inspired – take on its cool Nautilo, with the Anonimo Nautilo Vintage. And good news for a lot of people: it's smaller! At first glance, there is not much new going on here, other than a change in design. You still get the trademark cushion-shaped case and the crown at 4 to prevent it from digging into your wrist. However, there are some (positive) novelties, such as the reduced diameter, a slightly softer appearance and the vintage or retro inspiration of the watch. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
The Petrolhead Corner - An Ode to the McLaren F1, the Ultimate Modern Supercar
This will create a debate, no doubt about that… Every “petrolhead” will have his own opinion to the question: “What is the ultimate modern supercar?” There are multiple names that could be quoted here, such as the Ferrari F40, the Countach, the Veyron and many more of them that have a special place in the heart of car aficionados. Still, there’s one car that can, objectively, be placed on top of the list. An over-engineered machine, designed by a genius/nerd (choose the most suitable) named Gordon Murray, a car that was meant to be on bedroom walls, a rare, fast car, with true motorsport DNA… The all-mighty, soon-to-be-legendary (well, it is already) and fascinating McLaren F1.Back in the early 1980s, you had a choice of three posters to tape on your bedroom wall: Jennifer Beals in Flashdance, the outrageous Ferrari Testarossa or the even more outrageous Lamborghini Countach. Fat tyres, wide read-ends, useless but oh-so-cool wings… And th
