Patek Philippe Alarm Travel Time 5520P (Live Pics, Specs & Price)
In 2015, Patek Philippe stunned the luxury watch community with the unveiling of the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 5524. Polarising in its design, it was easily one of the most talked about watches of the Fair. Four years later and the Geneva powerhouse is at it again, pushing the boundaries even further with its latest Grand Complication, the Ref. 5520P Alarm Travel Time. We were fortunate enough to spend some hands-on time with this impressive new timepiece. Here are our initial thoughts.Editor’s note: to understand more about the complex 5520P, please check the video on top of this article. If you're new to the world of luxury watches, you may have missed all the controversy surrounding the introduction of the Ref. 5524 in 2015. In fact, now you might even find it hard to believe there was any controversy at all, as the model has since become a core part of the Calatrava collection. So much so that a second version - the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 7234R Lady - debuted
Introducing the 2014 IWC Aquatimer Collection - With LIVE Photos - Monochrome Watches
Last year IWC completely revamped the Ingenieur collection, the year before that it was the Pilot’s collection, and this year the Aquatimer collection gets a fresh new look. Today we can already show you some of the new models, the rest will be ‘visually’ presented in a few weeks at the SIHH in Geneva. Now I have seen the entire new Aquatimer collection, I can already say that my favorite is made in bronze!IWC has a long reputation for using ‘new’ materials; new at least for the watch industry. Especially the Ocean 2000, a classic that IWC made for Porsche Design and one that most (fanatic) watch enthusiast will know, was a well ahead of its time. That was because of its smooth, rounded integrated bracelet, entirely made in titanium, and with a depth rating of 2000 meters. This particular watch was a huge source of inspiration for Christian Knoop, IWC's Creative Director, which can be seen in the new Aquatimer Automatic 2000 (Ref. IW358002). Ad
Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept, one of the lightest mechanical timepieces (just under 15 grams!) - Monochrome Watches
When introduced, the?TimeWalker collection by Montblanc was a modern and urban line of watches, characterized mainly by its sculptural lugs – see here. However, overall, the watches remained rather classical and clean – like this one. Since a year or two, the collection has greatly evolved, bringing a much bolder and much more technical look and feel. Montblanc showed us last year the?TimeWalker ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph LE100, mixing angular shapes, carbon fiber case and super-technical movement. This year, the collection welcomes a new member, again?surprising and far from being classical; the?Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept, with a superb skeletonized Minerva movement – and boys and girls, it’s just under 15 grams and thus one?of the lightest mechanical timepieces in the world…15 grams… That’s the average weight of a letter (an envelope with 1 sheet of paper inside), the weight of 1 tablespoon of sugar or the weight
Hands-On Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph (Specs & Price)
Black and gold or black and bronze watches are pretty hot commodities these days. Who can forget the Sea-Dweller Rolesor, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono or even the Bell & Ross BR V2-94 Belly Tanker? Oris joins the black and gold “John Player Special” gang with this Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph, a solid diver/chrono with a cool vintage vibe and a competitive price tag. Launched at Baselworld 2019, we take a closer look at the regular production stainless steel Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph.1965 RESURFACES IN 2015In 2015, Oris relaunched its 1965 dive watch. Riding the wave of nostalgia for vintage-inspired timepieces, the Divers Sixty-Five watch was and is a resounding success. With funky material combos of bronze, steel and bronze and a wide variety of colours, the Sixty-Five family proved that owning a cool vintage-style dive watch did not mean breaking the bank.Following in the wake of the top hit 2016 Carl Brashear Limited Edition three-hand-and-date solid bronz
Talking to Sylvain Dolla, Tissot's CEO - Monochrome Watches
Tissot is one of the oldest brands in the portfolio of Swatch Group. Founded in 1853 by Charles-Felicien Tissot and his son, Charles-emile Tissot, it was acquired by Swatch Group in 1998 and positioned as a manufacturer of robust yet affordable watches with a sporting soul. Hugely benefitting from the Group’s resources, Tissot relies on its extensive archives to create appealing watches at accessible prices. In recent years we’ve seen some strong offerings, like the Heritage 1973 Chronograph, the Seastar 2000 Professional Powermatic 80, and the smash-hit PRX Powermatic 80. All the more reason to sit down with CEO Sylvain Dolla.Sylvain Dolla, CEO of TissotXavier Markl, MONOCHROME – You took the helm at Tissot as CEO a few months ago.
