Patek Philippe introduces the 5712 in luxurious rose gold
The new Nautilus 5811 by Patek Philippe isn’t the only news of the day, as there are three further references under the Nautilus name. Although today’s release of the long-awaited 5711 replacement will undoubtedly steal the spotlight from the other “Nautilus class of 2022” models, rest assured, there’s plenty to be discovered with Patek’s super-luxurious take on the charmingly unbalanced 5712. Introducing the new 5712/1R in full rose gold and with a delicious chocolate brown dial.?As a true horological icon with a cult-like status perhaps only rivalled by the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the Patek Philippe Nautilus needs little introduction. This luxury sports watch was first introduced in 1976 and has seen many iterations since. When news broke that the 5711 was being discontinued a little over a year ago, the rumour mill started churning. What would Patek do with its classical steel-and-blue sports watch? The answer is the white gold 5811/1G-001 rele
Collector's Series - Fran?ois-Xavier Overstake's URWERK UR103.08 TiAlN
Today I’m talking with long-time friend Fran?ois-Xavier Overstake, aka @equationdutemps. This is not just his Instagram handle, but also the name of his blog about watches, which is probably one of the most important French publications on watches. Besides running his own blog, Francois-Xavier is a moderator on Watchprosite, a large watch forum. At 51 he has a day time job in the compliance department of a big insurance company and his leasure time is devoted to the beauty of mechanical timepieces. We’re talking about his stunning URWERK UR103.08 TiAlN.Frank Geelen, MONOCHROME – Do you remember when you first laid eyes on Urwerk as a brand?Fran?ois-Xavier Overstake – Urwerk is a recent brand compared to long-established companies; it was founded in 1997. But at the same time, it has also been a long time player in the independent watchmaking segment. Actually, thanks to its style and its focus on a specific time display (wandering hours), Urwerk managed to build
Bvlgari Bvlgari Cities Special Editions 2020 (Specs & Price)
Even if most of the buzz has been generated around the successful Octo collection – and its multiple thinness world records – there is more than just one modern icon produced by the Italian watchmaker/jeweller. Based on a model introduced in the mid-1970s, the Bvlgari Bvlgari collection perpetuates this love affair between Bvlgari and its country of origin, with a deceptively simple design that actually incorporates multiple references to Italian culture. Today, the brand launches the Bvlgari Bvlgari Cities Editions 2020, inspired by the nine cities – Rome, Tokyo, Dubai, Paris, London, Ibiza, Milan, Mexico City and New York – that have hosted Bvlgari in the past.A 1970s BackgroundThe original design of the Bvlgari Bvlgari, with its signature cylindrical case and bezel engraved with the brand’s name and Roma, was first introduced in 1975 as a limited edition gift for 100 of Bvlgari's best clients. With its unexpected combination of a yellow gold shine, a cl
HYT H2O with fluidic indication (Live Photos, Specs & Price)
Two limited editions of the HYT H2O – one in a black DLC-coated case with bright green fluid, the other in a silver case with blue fluid – were unveiled during the 2018 SIHH watch salon. Exposed under a large sapphire crystal dome, the H2O models – an evolution of the HYT H2 – reveal the flow of time from every possible angle. With its original fluidic indication for the hours – which undergoes a fascinating retrograde phase – and a jumping minute hand, the novelty here is the refreshing design of the H2O. The dial, which has undergone a significant decluttering session, and the integrated strap conspire to make the watch more attractive, more streamlined and eminently wearable. When time became liquid--In just eight years, HYT has come a long way with its unconventional concept of fusing hydromechanics with horology. Firstly, for having won over sceptics that liquid could be introduced inside a mechanical watch without damaging the movement (usually
Elka Watches Vintage-Inspired Models on Kickstarter
There are dozens of watch-related projects launched on Kickstarter and other crowdfunding platforms every month, with more or less interest. Sometimes, we stumble across something cool, nicely executed and with a captivating background, something like this; Elka Watches. A new brand built on a historic, defunct name, the idea of its founder was to bring back the flair of the 1960s with modernised specifications, attention to details and appealing designs. With two collections under its sleeve, let’s look at the retro-styled models launched by Elka Watches and now available for orders on Kickstarter.Elka Watches, the contemporary brand we’re looking at today, will probably remind some of an old company. Yet, as explained by the brand, “our brand of 2022 has no connection with the defunct Amsterdam brand. We just wanted to pay a tribute to the old Dutch brand with our first 2 models.” About the historic Elka name, it was founded in Amsterdam in 1877 by Eliazer Kie
