REVIEW: IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic ref. 3904 - Monochrome-Watches
Last year IWC introduced not only an entirely renewed Ingenieur collection, at the annual Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. Later in the year they (more or less) quietly introduced two new models in the Portuguese collection: the Portuguese Hand-Wound 8-Days and the IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic. Today we’re going to have a close look at the Portuguese Chronograph Classic in pink gold.Although these two were not presented during the SIHH as the big novelty, we think that this is at least as ‘big’ as the entire new Ingenieur family. Here’s why… “the other” Portuguese Chronograph -reference 3714- is one of IWC’s most successful watches ever, and has been in the collection since 1998. That is sixteen years. And the Portuguese Rattrapante, with the same looks however with the ‘doppelchrono’ movement, was introduced into the IWC collection two years earlier in 1996. So besides the usual review questions -how does it
Introducing: The Audemars ROO Chronograph End of Days Revival 26420CE
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Royal Oak Offshore a.k.a. The Beast, and we have already seen several new models launched by the brand from Le Brassus to celebrate the event, like the ROO Chronograph 43mm Black Ceramic and Yellow Gold, or the stunning Black Ceramic Beast. The latest edition of the ROO is based on this recent one but is dressed differently as it takes you back to the 1990s and the End of Days, the reference 25770SN. The new model highlights the importance of that limited edition watch released in 1999 in collaboration with Arnold Schwarzenegger, as the legendary timepiece inspires its attire.End of Days is not a film you should have spent your time watching back in 1999, and it certainly is not worth it now. The leading role that Arnold Schwarzenegger was cast for is said to have been written for Tom Cruise, who went on to work on Magnolia instead (good for you, Tom!). Liv Tyler and Kate Winslet rejected offers as Arnie's female counterpart. Sam Raimi and Gu
Recap: The Best Vintage-Inspired Watches of 2023
If we talk about trends in watchmaking, vintage has been one of the main sources of inspiration for brands since around 2010. And yet, after all these years, re-editions of glorious past models and vintage-inspired watches are still a hot topic in 2023. Retro-styled watches, vintage reissues and old-school design language are still staples in brand collections across the board. However, finding the right balance between modern watchmaking and retro design language isn’t as easy as it seems. And for this very reason, selecting our five Favourite Vintage-Inspired Watches of 2023 was a bit more complicated than we anticipated…?Note: make sure to share your favourite vintage-inspired models of 2023 in the comment section at the end of this article. With so many retro-styled watches on the market this year, we look forward to seeing your top choices.Angelus x Massena LAB Chronographe MedicalWe start this selection with a slightly unexpected brand, Angelus. The third generation of the Omega De Ville Prestige
The Omega De Ville Prestige is the brand's classic all-rounder. Launched 28 years ago, the model is somewhat overshadowed by the popular Seamaster and Speedmaster but is an important pillar of the brand's collection. Omega now introduces an overall upgrade of the Prestige with six different families, five different sizes, and four different movements, all with improved functionality and style. The De Ville Prestige has never been better and has never looked better! We’ll talk you through all the details of this major update of the De Ville collection.THE ORIGINSThe name De Ville appeared on the dial of Omega watches after the introduction of the brand's trilogy of professional watches (1957). Next to these professional instrument watches, De Ville referred to the continuation of the dressier heritage of the Seamaster; the Seamasters meant for the city or De Ville in French. Hands-On - Seiko Prospex Samurai Collection for 2017 (SRPB49K1-SRPB51K1-SRPB53K1-SRPB55K1) - Specs & Price
Few brands can claim to have watches that are so iconic that they are actually known after monikers. and Omega are amongst them – think “Paul Newman”, “Bart Simpson” or “Deep Blue” – but Seiko is also on par in this “nickname game”. Many of their watches have been dubbed with funky sobriquets, as for instance the “Turtle” or the “62Mas”. Another one, more modern, is the “Samurai”, known to be a sporty watch with a high quality-to-value ratio. After a discreet comeback with the (sold-out) Lagoon Limited Edition, aficionados?will be pleased to see that the?Seiko Prospex Samurai is back in the 2017 collection, and now in non-limited editions. As a reminder, the Seiko Samurai (you can see an old example below) was launched in 2004 and was produced for a few years, until being removed from the catalogue. Already at that time, it was a rather large, sturdy, 200m water resistant and modernly-desig
