Recap: The Best Calendar Watches of 2024
Talking about calendar watches is a vast topic, which can range from fairly simple mechanisms to some of the most complex movements watchmakers have invented. Indeed, this category ranges from the classic triple calendar (mechanically, an evolution of the date complication with no self-adjustment of the length of the months) to the finest version, the secular perpetual calendar, watches that can automatically adapt to the smallest oddities of our Gregorian calendar. Looking at this category, we have to say that 2024 didn’t disappoint and brought us some incredible watches – one of them even won the prestigious GPHG. So here is our selection of the best calendar watches of 2024, from an eccentric planetarium to a secular perpetual calendar.Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar John MayerThere are multiple reasons why we’ve selected this John Mayer x Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in this list of the best calendar watches. The New Ikepod Megapod With A One-Minute Hourglass
Ikepod is a preeminent figure in unconventional and often contentious design-focused watchmaking icons. Revered by collectors and enthusiasts alike, the brand, founded in 1994 by designer Marc Newson and entrepreneur Oliver Ike, has left an indelible mark on the watchmaking scene. Despite its global success, Ikepod faced a challenging period, with production coming to a halt in 2012. After a period of dormancy, the brand found a new lease on life under the ownership of Christian-Louis Col, who firmly believed in giving Ikepod a second (third, really) chance. After a series of very appealing and true-to-form watches, Ikepod feels the time has come to retire the gen3 Megapod, with a fitting Hourglass limited edition. From left to right: Ikepod Megapod Hourglass Rob, Walter, Gae, Dieter.Col, recognizing Ikepod as a designer’s brand, collaborated with Emmanuel Gueit (famous creator of AP ROO) for the debut quartz-powered Duopod collection. Pre-SIHH 2019 - Montblanc TimeWalker Reverse Panda Chronographs (Specs & Price)
Two years ago at the SIHH 2017, Montblanc completely redesigned its TimeWalker collection, presenting its vision of what a sports watch should look like. This represented the fulfilment of a key objective for Davide Cerrato, Managing Director of the Watch Division. In 2019, the brand looks to build on this success with the introduction of two additional models to the collection. Both feature Reverse Panda dials with contrasting black backgrounds and silvery-white counters and flanges. Read on for all the details, including expected pricing. It's fair to say that since joining Montblanc's watchmaking division in 2015, industry legend Davide Cerrato has had a transformative effect. Particularly with regards to introducing some more sporty models to the line-up. This makes sense given Cerrato's track record at Panerai and Tudor. The man knows luxury sports watches and the revamped TimeWalker collection only serves as added proof of his talent.Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture ChronographFir
Introducing The New Colourful TAG Heuer Carrera Date 36mm Collection (Live Pics & Price)
The TAG Heuer Carrera collection is famous for the various editions of chronographs, but it has a few elegant timepieces to offer without the sporty function. This year, TAG Heuer launches an all-new version of the Carrera Date, redesigned and with an upgraded movement. Please welcome the new Carrera Date 36mm, which comes with fresh and colourful new dials. No doubt TAG Heuer fans remember the recent introduction of the Carrera models, none featuring the chronograph function – the Carrera Date 39 mm, Day-Date 41mm and the Twin-Time Date 41mm in 2021. Though it seemed like the first time the company deviated in such a manner, TAG Heuer produced simple, chronograph-free three-hand Carrera watches with a date indication in the late 1990s and quite recently, too - including the Calibre 5 automatic Carrera Date 36mm, in the Carrera Lady line. There is no need to remind you the original Jack Heuer-designed Carrera chronograph from 1963 featured a 36mm diameter case, which was a good en
The New Vacheron Constantin Quai de l'Ile in Stainless Steel - Hands-on Photos, Specs and Price - Monochrome Watches
When?I first laid eyes on the Vacheron Constantin Quai de l’Ile, when it?was first introduced in 2007, I didn’t exactly know how to position it. This watch, or better these watches, were a tad more sporty / casual than the average classic dress watch, and also a bit more chic than the average sports watch. Maybe a perfect allrounder? The unique mix-n-match case options offered customers to choose from various materials – red gold, titanium, steel – to create their ultimate personalised combination. In theory a great option, however in reality it confused potential customers. Now, nine years after the initial launch, we see two new stainless steel versions of the Vacheron Constantin Quai de l’Ile. And that’s not all… the new steel Quai de l’Ile sports the all new calibre 5100/1. Could this maybe be the perfect allrounder??The herd of the Quai de l’Ile collection has already been thinned, and comprises, besides the two new steel model
