The incredible A. Lange & Sohne Triple Split in Pink Gold
Not all chronograph watches are created equal; that’s an undeniable fact, and we all know it. And when it comes to tracking elapsed time with great precision, driven by a purely mechanical movement, few brands do it like A. Lange & Sohne. Any chronograph movement is a big step up in complexity over a time-only piece, but an integrated triple split flyback chronograph is pushing boundaries very far indeed, close to the impossible. But impossible for the German Haute Horlogerie manufacture it is not, as in 2018 the A. Lange & Sohne Triple Split was presented. This unprecedented watch is the brand’s crowning achievement in the field of chronographs, now also presented in a pink gold case with a deep blue dial. When A. Lange & Sohne presented the Double Split back in 2004, the watchmaking world took notice. The chronograph has always been an important complication, not only from a historical watchmaking perspective but also for A. Lange & Sohne as a brand. Natura
Introducing: The Audermars Piguet Code 11.59 Now in 38mm
Three of the biggest trends in watchmaking today are more compact case sizes, textured, colourful dials and deliberate gender-free positioning. Audemars Piguet jumps on the bandwagon and produces its time-and-date Code 11.59 in a new 38mm case size to accommodate slimmer wrists of both sexes and decks out the vibrant purple and elegant ivory dials with a richly embossed pattern. The new 38mm Code 11.59 watches are presented in 18k pink gold cases and designed to sit alongside the collection's current 41mm and 42mm models – the latter being only seen on the Universelle Ultra-Complication. Not only is the 38mm case more compact, but it is also slimmer in height due to the incorporation of the automatic calibre 5900. A comparable time-and-date Code 11.59 model in 41mm, for example, has a thickness of 10.7mm, while the new 38mm diameter comes in at 9.6mm. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Richemont Announces 2020 Half-Year Sales Down 26% - Monochrome Watches
Switzerland-based luxury conglomerate Richemont Group has just issued its trading update for the six months ended 30 September 2020. As expected in these uncertain times, sales are down. COVID-19 impacted activities but the situation has improved over the past months helped by Chinese demand. For the half-year, sales decreased by 26% at actual exchange rates to EUR 5,478 million and by 25% at constant exchange rates. The Group operating profit is down to EUR 452 million with an 8.3% operating margin and the profit for the period is down to EUR 159 million. The owner of multiple high-end watch brands, such as IWC, A. Lange & Sohne, JLC or Cartier, reports a more positive trend throughout the second quarter of 2020, with sales down by 5% at actual exchange rates and 2% at constant exchange rates, following a 47% decline (at actual and constant exchange rates) in the first quarter of 2020. This was also reflected by other industry indicators. In particular, the statistics released by t
Technical Guide - The Difference Between Office GMT and Travel GMT Watches
The world of watches is full of complications. I know, the name can be somewhat deceptive since the idea behind a complication is to bring the user something practical… well, most of the time, at least. Dozens of functions can be added to a watch, but few are as practical in real life as the GMT or dual time complication. A true blue-collar complication, on the same level as the chronograph or the diving bezel (something that can’t be said about an equation of time), there isn’t, however, just one type of GMT watch. To simplify, we can break up the GMT category into two variants: the true or traveller’s GMT and the office or caller GMT. Today, we take a closer look at the complication, so you know exactly what to expect when looking for your next GMT watch. What is a GMT watch? The creation of the first GMT watches resulted from a shift in society. Following WWII and the advent of commercial and intercontinental flights, mankind started to travel more frequently.
Nivada Grenchen Depthmaster Pac-Man Rebirth - Introducing, Price
The world of dive watches is immense… so much so that we sometimes forget that during the 1960s there were hundreds of brands and watches available. Some, of course, acquired cult status; some fell into oblivion. Others, however, are still known and collected by a niche group of enthusiasts. We’ve seen this recently with Aquastar, for instance. Another brand that was recently revived is Nivada Grenchen. Following the launch of the Chronomaster, the brand revives the Depthmaster “Pac-Man” along with a second version of the watch with Arabic numerals.BackgroundNivada was founded in 1926 by Jacob Schneider in Granges (Grenchen). In 1930 Nivada was one of the first companies to manufacture automatic watches. This led to the creation of Nivada's first waterproof automatic watch called the Antarctic in 1950. The watch was worn by members of the American Navy's Deep Freeze 1 during their expedition to the South Pole from 1955 to 1956. Among numerous models, the most wi
