Hands-On 2021 A. Lange & Sohne Cabaret Tourbillon Handwerkskunst
In 1997, A. Lange & Sohne introduced the Cabaret. A very unlikely name given the brand's august Saxon spirit, the Cabaret was also Lange's first rectangular watch since its rebirth in 1994. Not to be mistaken with the Arkade, which formed part of the quartet of watches that marked the brand’s revival, the Cabaret had a distinctive Art Deco spirit. The most spectacular and complicated version of the Cabaret was the Tourbillon edition that went out of production in 2013. Today, collectors can celebrate with the return of this limited 30-piece edition of the Cabaret Tourbillon in a gleaming 950 platinum case. As Lange's seventh model in its hyper-exclusive Handwerkskunst collection, the finishings are of the highest order. However, before looking at the rich details and unique rectangular movement with stop-seconds for the tourbillon, a few words explaining its genesis might help.Life is a CabaretAlthough it is hard to conceive a rectangular watch in Lange's line-up of round wat
Baselworld 2019 - Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172G (Specs & Price)
The classic Patek Philippe hand-wound chronograph immediately comes to mind to any collector thinking about high-end chronographs. The 5070 (based on a Lemania ebauche for Patek Philippe) was presented in 1998. It was replaced by the reference 5170 and its in-house, CH 29-535 hand-wound movement (that was launched the year before in a ladies’ watch). At Baselworld 2019, Patek has just unveiled a new classic chronograph. A white gold case featuring a box sapphire crystal, round guilloche pushers and three-tier lugs… This is the Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172G and it is, unsurprisingly, superbly executed. The reference 5172G is still powered by the caliber CH 29-535, meaning the traditional hand-wound integrated chronograph with column wheel and horizontal clutch. For easier reading of elapsed times, it features instantaneous jumping minutes. Running at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it boasts 65 hours of power reserve when the chronograph is disengaged. The architecture of the
Understanding Porsche Design, With the Vintage Titan Chronograph and The Modern Monobloc Actuator - Monochrome Watches
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was a genius, a visionary. A man not weary of defying odds and venturing into the unknown. Not only is he the driving force behind the legendary Porsche 911 sports car, but he also brought us much, much more. Under the Porsche Design umbrella is a world of luxury items to be found, from travel bags, writing instruments and fashion items to highly technical sports-oriented wristwatches. There's a clear link to the road and race cars by Porsche but that's not all. The brand has a very innovative orientation and today we take a look at a vintage world's first by Porsche Design. We're comparing the then futuristic Titan Chronograph by IWC and its modern derivative, the Monobloc Actuator 24h-Chronotimer.Ferdinand Alexander “Butzen” Porsche next to its most iconic creation, the legendary Porsche 911A few years ago, we already took an in-depth look at Porsche Design and the brand's history with titanium. Introducing the new MONOCHROME Hand-Made Rally Straps - Monochrome Watches
End of last year we introduced the new Monochrome Web-Shop and our hand-made premium leather watch rolls. We’re very proud that our customers were very impressed by the impeccable quality. Since we write about the most beautiful and exclusive timepieces of our planet, we feel that our products should be on par with that. So we searched long, to find a very good strapmaker, who makes the very best straps for your vintage timepieces.Several years ago I already asked myself if changing straps is just a hobby for Paneristi? I do realize that it probably started with Panerai watches, however personally I love to switch straps on my other watches as well. The straps are hand-made in Cyprus, and are crafted of the finest leathers. These ‘rally’ straps are punctured with holes, in a typical 1960’s/1970’s racing style and look absolutely great on your vintage Speedmaster, Camaro, Carrera, Autavia, Monaco, Top Timer, or any other vintage/modern chronograph.
Tudor Goes Against the Trend with the Black Bay 68 in 43mm - Monochrome Watches
Expanding once more its emblematic live of dive watches, the Black Bay, Tudor makes a surprising move by releasing the new Black Bay 68. Indeed, while the watch started its life in 2012 in 41mm, the brand continuously reduced its size by launching the 39mm Black Bay 58 and then the 37mm Black Bay 54. And in 2025, against all odds but “meeting the demand for various case sizes to fit all types of wrists,” the brand releases a larger, 43mm edition named the Black Bay 68.No surprises regarding the design of this Black Bay 68. We’re in very, very well known territories. Basically, the same recipe as what the brand did when releasing the Black Bay 58, but now only in the opposite direction, becoming bigger. The case, with the familiar BB diver look, with its brushed surfaces and polished bevels on the side, now measures 43mm in diameter and 13.6mm in thickness – we’re awaiting for confirmation of the lug-to-lug. It relies on the same design elements as the Blac
