SIHH 2014: Recap of all the A. Lange & Sohne novelties (with LOTS of photos) - Monochrome Watches
Apart from the Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar Terraluna we've presented you last Monday (see here) and the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase that you have discovered through Frank's hands-on (see here), A. Lange & Sohne revealed more new timepieces at the 2014 edition of the SIHH. Monochrome-Watches looks back on the new models of the Saxonian brand, and adds a LOAD of hands-on photos.1815 Tourbillon / 1815 (2014)The 1815 case is nothing new in the A. Lange & Sohne range, nor are the tourbillons. Is the 1815 Tourbillon boring? Not at all. It's a classic interpretation of the very legible and elegant 1815 design, which always features a lot of horological sweetness. The new 1815 Tourbillon features a large tourbillon, visible through an equally large aperture in the dial, and there’s more. New is a stop-seconds mechanism (also sometimes referred to as hack system) with a Zero-Reset function. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Grande Sonnerie Carillon Supersonnerie
With an ultra-thin perpetual calendar, an openworked tourbillon, a minute repeater Supersonnerie and more recently, a flying tourbillon chronograph, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet wasn’t short of complications… But the latest addition in the range goes a step further with a movement that features what’s probably the highest complication of them all, a grande sonnerie – something only a handful of watchmakers are capable of. So here’s the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Grande Sonnerie Carillon Supersonnerie, which also pays tribute to the makers, featuring handcrafted enamel dials by master enameller Anita Porchet. The grande sonnerie at Audemars PiguetChiming watches, or watches that strike the time, take us back to the origins of watchmaking. Invented in the 14th century, striking clocks had no dials and announced the time with chimes. Audemars Piguet has specialised in chiming mechanisms since its establishment in 1875. Records show that more than half

Henry Graves Patek Philippe Supercomplication set a new record of CHF 20,600,000 at Sotheby's auction - Monochrome-Watches
This record was predictable. The price too. But even if most of us were expecting a mind-blowing price, the amount of money offered yesterday for the Henry Graves Patek Philippe?Supercomplication remains something close to?indecency, as Sotheby’s hammered the most expensive watch to date for CHF 20,600,000 (before buyer’s premium). Now that we know the price, the big question is ‘Who’. Some clues to come.Let’s begin with the most important: figures. We told you, the?Henry Graves Patek Philippe Supercomplication just beat the previous record of?the most expensive watch ever sold. It was previously held by… that same pocket watch. It had already been auctioned in 1999, also by Sotheby’s, for USD 11,000,000. Ad - Scroll to continue with article Yesterday, 11 November 2014, it reached CHF 20,600,000 before buyer’s prem
Toyotas Victory in Transitional 2021 Le Mans 24-Hour Race - Monochrome Watches
Initially, it was intended more manufacturers would join Toyota for this year's running of the most prestigious endurance race of the year. There was already news of Aston Martin cancelling the Valkyrie racing program long before the event. This all led to only 5 contenders in the newly formed Le Mans Hypercar class, with Toyota being rivalled by Alpine and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. But not to worry, there are still some very interesting elements to this year's edition, not only from the top-tier racers but even more so in the other categories. We'll take you through the highlights.Making a transition from one set of rules to the other is always challenging. It becomes even more strenuous when your running a multi-class event and have to consider implementing a balance of performance and focus on building a sustainable future. We all know the remaining life of combustion engines seems to be very short, as more and more manufacturers shift towards hybrid and full EV portfolios, but
