SIHH 2017 - 5 Questions To Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Sohne (VIDEO) - Monochrome Watches
Walter Lange, A. Lange & Sohne Honorary Chairman, died on January,17th, 2017, the day right after we recorded this interview. We’d like to dedicate this very modest movie to this great name of the watchmaking industry and a highly respectable person. Bravo! We’ll miss you Mister Lange. As some might say, the show must go on… But?how futile?and material?this would be, the SIHH is about watches and A. Lange & Sohne again has a great, impressive and highly desirable collection of watches, including the Tourbograph Perpetual, the Zeitwerk Decimal Strike and the 1815 Annual Calendar. And who could be better than our good friend?Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Sohne, to explain these SIHH 2017 novelties. Here is our conversation with him. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
The Collector's Series: Koen's IWC Vintage Ingenieur - Monochrome-Watches
It is with great pleasure we welcome Koen?as a contributor?to the Monochrome-Watches team he is extremely active on the IWC forum and a truly passionate watch geek. When we first sat down on the Collector Series with Koen,?we discussed his stunning Vintage IWC Portofino. On this occasion, in a rather overcast London (no surprise there), his second instalment of the series, we discussed how his passion for IWC lead him to the glorious IWC Vintage Ingenieur.First off let’s take a look back. The first IWC Ingenieur was unveiled in 1955. It was equipped with the first bidirectional automatic movement and developed by the then Technical Director, Albert Pellaton. It wasn’t famous until the early 1970s, when a diver's helmet inspired freelance watch designer Gerald Genta (yes, that’s the same gentleman who designed the AP Royal Oak and Patek’s Nautilus.) His mission was to redesign the Ingenieur. Genta designed the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, which was launched in 1
Recap - The Best Watches Introduced by LONGINES in 2021
2021 was yet another complicated year for watchmaking, and not all brands were as active or creative as they might have hoped. Many of the established watchmakers have been playing it safe, adopting conservative policies or simply postponing major launches for better days. Yet others have shown impressive reactivity and presented solid collections in 2021, and Longines certainly is one of them. Today, in a recap article, we’ll take a closer look at the most attractive watches that have been launched by the winged hourglass (a.k.a Longines) in 2021. And yes, we have a soft spot for its heritage collection. Guilty as charged! The Longines Avigation BigEye TitaniumThis model isn’t per se a new watch, but more a new version of an existing model launched about four years ago. First presented in stainless steel with a classic black dial mimicking an elusive historic model, the Avigation BigEye returned this year in a new version with new materials and colours. And while it may sou
Ulysse Nardin Blast HourStriker Tourbillon - Review, Price
Before the invention of portable clocks, pocket and wristwatches, telling the time was primarily an audible exercise. In the past, almost every major city and town had a church with a tower clock. Visible from close quarters but not from afar, a system of bells and hammers chimed the time. For centuries this technique has been refined and miniaturised to fit into a mechanical wristwatch. Ulysse Nardin now takes the next step in this highly complex yet ever so romantic field of traditional mechanical watchmaking. Today we're introducing the Ulysse Nardin Blast HourStriker Tourbillon.BackgroundIn the world of watchmaking, there are a few complications regarded as ultra-complex to master. One is the integrated chronograph, even more so when fitted with a rattrapante. Then there's the tourbillon and even double or triple-axis tourbillons. And finally, there are various striking mechanisms, whether a Sonnerie, a repeater or a striking time indication. There are only a handful of watchmakers
Hands-On - Trilobe Les Matinaux Sunray Grey (Specs & Price)
The circular motion of hands has been widely adopted for multiple centuries now, in order to display the time. But if you are ready to look at things differently and twist conventions, there is latitude for creativity and a multitude of other ways to tell the time. When faced with buying his first serious mechanical watch, Gautier Massonneau could not find his heart desire among the current range of watches. The son of an architect and interior designer, with a background in banking/finance, the young French man soon embarked on the creation of his own watch and his own independent brand. The project was started in 2013 and the first watch was presented in 2018. Trilobe timepieces eschew traditional codes and instead provide their own offbeat take on mechanical watchmaking. The Dubai Watch Week was a perfect opportunity to go hands-on with the?Trilobe Les Matinaux Sunray Grey, the brand’s first creation. The first thing to catch your eye with the Trilobe Les Matinaux?(The Morning
