Weekly Watch Photo - Audemars Piguet wants your Summer Photos - Monochrome Watches
As a watch brand you’re usually sending information. Advertisements, endorsements, press releases and much more. Audemars Piguet does something entirely different this summer. They asked their Facebook fans to share their summer photos.?The ideal result are photos showing an Audemars Piguet timepiece and a beautiful background, in this case related to your vacation/summer. Mood shot, that’s what theses kind of photos are called. Other brands like A. Lange und Sohne and IWC shared their own mood-shots (and we shared them with you). That’s how it’s supposed to be!The following AP owner took off his Royal Oak Offshore before taking a plunge and that’s not necessary because the AP ROO (
Swatch Flymagic - Inverted Automatic Movement and First Watch with Nivachron Hairspring (Hands-On) - Monochrome Watches
In August 2018, Swatch Group, in collaboration with Audemars Piguet, announced the development of a new, paramagnetic compensating alloy made from a titanium base called Nivachron. If this may sound a bit arcane, Nivachron signifies a real breakthrough in the fight against magnetism. Aiming at optimizing the resistance of the watch to magnetic fields, it represents a substantial improvement for watches, enhancing the oscillator's regularity and consequently the watch's precision. We were curious to know how and when Swatch Group would introduce this technology. Well, the wait is over and to our surprise, the first watch to receive it comes from the Group’s entry-level brand. Meet the Swatch Flymagic. Before we move to the technical part and the presentation of this new Swatch Flymagic, let’s get straight to the point. What Swatch has presented today is an evolution of the Sistem51, with an inverted movement, visible through the dial, still automatic (with the oscillating wei
Revisiting An Icon - The Seiko Speedtimer - Monochrome Watches
Our new contributor, Evan Yueng, has a real fetish for the first automatic chronograph. Like me! Although I focus mainly on the outcome of the cooperation between Heuer, Breitling, Buren and Dubois-Depraz, Evan focusses on Seiko’s first automatic chronograph, the Speedtimer.?It’s been years since the craze for the Daytona has began, and even more years since the advent of automatic chronographs themselves. Back in the 70s, the Heuers and the El Primeros have taken a foothold of the entire sports watch industry by racing to become the first to produce an automatic chronograph. It’s been a feat that has been debated for so long on who really won, but in the background of all of this, another manufacturer, quietly created one to call their own – the Seiko 6139 or what others would like to call the Speedtimer. This duo of watchmakers, Roope Kortela and Rene Valta, found a mutual passion for watchmaking when studying at the Finnish School of Watchmaking and have joined forces to create something very cool called the Eka. Introducing: The Fabian Pellet Essential
The interest in high-end independent watchmaking has risen to great heights over the past few years, and with it, new and exciting names pop up every now and then. Names that might come fresh from school, or in the case of Fabian Pellet, can rely on over two decades of experience. Presenting his debut piece, called Essential, it shows all the hallmarks of a very refined mechanical watch. A gorgeous case and dial, a stunning movement, and ample amounts of traditional finishing. Despite the fact the first series of the Essential is sold out already, it’s still worth having a closer look at this rather classical stunner. As you might have been able to tell from the first images, Fabian Pellet has a passion for traditional watchmaking. Born in Lausanne, and educated in the Vallee de Joux, he specialized in complications and the restoration of antique watches. Following his graduation, he joined Breguet in 2003 and worked on minute repeaters at first, followed by a ten-year stint in th
