The Collector's Series - Charles and his fascinating Gronefeld Parallax Tourbillon... In Titanium - Monochrome-Watches
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of sitting down with?distinguished?collector and?contributor to the Deployant Blog,?Charles Sutanto.?As an engineer, Charles tells me it was really a?fascination?with mechanics that drew him to watches. ?His horological journey started approximately 15 years ago with the purchase of Jaeger LeCoultre Master?Memovox. In his early days of collecting he?found himself appreciating?creations?from the likes?of both?Audemars Piguet and Panerai. It is fair to say that as time went on, during?2007 and the Tempus, Charles went through somewhat of a transition in his collecting focus. This was the period in which he was introduced to the world of independents and haute haute horology. Voutilainen, De Bethune and other independents became the core of Charles' focus. With this in mind, I?thoroughly?enjoyed discussing a watch you rarely see in the wild…a Gronefeld Parallax Tourbillon (in titanium). When did you first get into watches?I guess what ignite my in
Event Report - IWC and Mercedes AMG: a partnership getting ready for Goodwood #74MM (tons of photos & video) - Monochrome Watches
Just in case you don’t know what Goodwood #74MM stands for: no worries. I did not either. It stands for the 74th edition of the Goodwood Member Meeting, an event at Lord March’s Goodwood estate that is not only about racing, but also about heritage and responsibility. The event will be held from March 18th to March 20th. Stay tuned as we will report about the event, including some watch spotting. IWC is a main sponsor of the Goodwood foundation. Last year IWC launched a special Goodwood Ingenieur in a limited edition of 25 watches.?Will IWC launch another edition? We will know soon enough. Read further what our thoughts are.IWC and Mercedes AMG: a partnership that goes beyond marketingThe visits to the Mercedes museum and – even more – the Mercedes AMG facility in Affalterbach (Germany) made me aware of the similarities between the companies and how much more this partnership is than just market opportunities. IWC and AMG share many values: heritage, passion for
Introducing: The Green 38mm Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m
Qualifying as Omega’s perfect everyday watch, the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection has long represented an elegant take on the aquatic watch or, conversely, a dress watch with a sportier vibe – take your pick. Over the years, we’ve seen countless editions of this watch, specifically following its facelift in 2017. It’s also been a testing ground for colours, as we saw with the Shades collection here. Today’s addition to the collection is a bit more classic, though. Following the introduction of a green teak-inspired dial on the 41mm Aqua Terra in 2020, it’s now time for the more compact 38mm to get this cool colour scheme. The classic Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m as we all know it – understand by that the versions with a sporty style and a teak-inspired dial – is available in two dimensions, a masculine 41mm model and a mid-size 38mm edition. In any case, it’s a watch we’ve long appreciated for its versatility – we̵
Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 Limited Edition - Monochrome Watches
Earlier this year Omega introduced a new version of a classic and highly collectable variation of the Speedmaster, the Speedmaster Mark II. This very attractive re-issue immediately won the hearts of collectors around the world. Speedmasters and limited editions are a commodity, however today we’re introducing a new (and the first) limited edition Speedmaster Mark II. The Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 pays tribute to, and is inspired by, the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. The new Speedmaster Mark II looks pretty much similar to the original Speedmaster Mk.II that was first introduced in 1969. Its typical tonneau-shaped case features a beautiful polished and sun-ray brushed finish, with lovely beveled and polished edges. The dial features the typical tri-compax 3-6-9 lay-out: a 30-minute register at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour register at 6 o'clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock. The tachymeter scale is rather special and is unique in the Omega collection. It is placed underneath
Carl F. Bucherer Manero PowerReserve - Full Review (live Pics, Specs & Price) - Monochrome Watches
Two years ago, in 2013, Carl F. Bucherer launched a new watch, the Manero PowerReserve, housing the in-house CFB A1011 movement. This manufacture movement is based on their highly appreciated and accurate automatic movement, calibre CFB A1000. The CFB A1011 features a date and day indication, an innovative shock absorbing system, a unique automatic winding system something that makes this watch rather unique), and a power reserve indicator. We just had the Carl F Bucherer Manero PowerReserve in for several weeks, to review it. In this report we share our findings after using/wearing the watch on a daily basis.Carl F. Bucherer? Who?
