Grand Seiko Hi-Beat SLGH005 White Birch Calibre 9SA5 - Review, Price
The presentation in early 2020 of the Grand Seiko “White Birch” or “Shirakaba” already gave us a great impression and it clearly was one of the watches I was eager to see in the metal. There’s no turning around, this SLGH005 represents the best of what GS can do for its permanent, classic collection. Mechanical noblesse, slightly renewed design language merged with respect of the brand’s traditions, exquisite finishing and a dial that is out of this world. And having this piece with us at the office for a review only confirmed what we imagined. So let’s have a closer look at this new Grand Seiko Hi-Beat SLGH005 White Birch.BackgroundThis SLGH005 is a new reference in the brand’s collection but isn’t entirely a novelty. It is built on existing foundations, which were introduced in the context of Grand Seiko’s 60th-anniversary, celebrated back in March 2020. What this SLGH005 is the first model in the permanent collection to be
Value Proposition: Dietrich 1969 - Avant-Garde Timekeeping for a Fun Price - Monochrome Watches
At Baselworld I’m always running (OK, speed-walking) from one meeting to the next, in order to see all the brands that we like to cover for you here, on Monochrome Watches. One of the last days of the fair I’m being stopped by a friend who shows me some watches and introduces me to the owner of the brand. The watches look pretty awesome, and features some recognizable design cues. And the pricing is at least as cool as the watches. Meet the Dietrich 1969 watches!Despite being in a hurry, I took a few minutes to talk with brand founder, owner, designer and an overall nice guy, Emmanuel Dietrich. He told me that had been working on his watches for several years, designing the proper looks, and finding the suppliers who can deliver the quality that he was looking for. Dietrich explained?me that the latter had been the most difficult challenge, as he was looking to deliver a quality level that might be expected from a Swiss brand. So although Dietrich 1969 uses Japanese Miyota

First Look: The Ultra-Light Ulysse Nardin Diver (Air)
Switzerland might be landlocked, but Ulysse Nardin, a young watchmaker from Le Locle, consolidated his reputation by producing precision marine chronometers. By the 1870s, the manufacture supplied more than 50 navies and merchant marine companies with chronometers to calculate longitude at sea. These days, Ulysse Nardin plays on its marine heritage with its classical Marine collection and contemporary lineup of Divers. The brand's Diver X Skeleton collection defied logic with its robust diving credentials and radically skeletonised movement. Pushing the envelope, the latest Diver (Air) takes the concept to the extreme and is, according to the brand, the world's lightest mechanical dive watch. By combining high-tech materials and taking skeletonisation to even greater heights, the new Ulysse Nardin Diver (Air) weighs in at just 52 grams, including the strap. ?With their exposed mechanics, skeletonised watches are not usually pitched as sporty dive watches.
