The Ultimate Guide To The A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Collection
The word icon is, unfortunately, used and abused by the industry. There are, nevertheless, true iconic watches, most of them introduced during the golden era of mechanical watchmaking during the 1950s and 1960s. When it comes to “modern icons”, watches that have been presented after the quartz crisis, few can rival the importance of the Lange 1, a watch that has been instrumental in the resurrection of the A. Lange & Sohne brand, of German watchmaking and of the whole concept of high-end horology. This formidable resurrection can be attributed to the genius of Gunter Blumlein. Today, we’ll revisit the A. Lange & S?hne Lange 1 by bringing you an in-depth and as exhaustive as possible guide looking at all models, all complications, all references, and illustrated by a movie featuring the brand’s CEO.?The story of the Lange 1 entirely coincides with that of the resurrection of A. Lange & Sohne. After rejuvenating Jeager-LeCoultre and IWC, Gunter Blumlei
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold Selfwinding 34mm
Audemars Piguet introduced the Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm in 2020 as the smallest-sized option with mechanical movement. Since its debut, AP has expanded the range with several variations, ranging from simple stainless steel to diamond-covered pink gold versions. For 2024, Audemars Piguet added two new models to the Royal Oak Frosted Gold Selfwinding 34mm series¡ªone in yellow gold and one in white gold¡ªboth adorned with special crystal sand-finished dials in yellow gold or rhodium-plated. And we have something to say about them! The monochromatic Royal Oak Frosted Gold Selfwinding 34mm watches rely on texture and light rather than colour, with their hammered finish on the case and bracelet complemented by the crystal-like surface of the dial. Observing these smaller Royal Oaks, one can’t help but wonder what similar time and date models in 39mm and 41mm would look like if Audemars Piguet offered them in these sizes. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon
Originally designed as a time-and-date model when it was introduced in 1972, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has since been offered with countless complications, including the most complex of them all, a grand complication. The tourbillon, an AP speciality is, of course, no stranger to the Royal Oak and was first used in the iconic luxury sports watch in 1997 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this model. Today, the latest evolution is revealed, this time with an automatic flying tourbillon movement, first launched in Code 11.59. Available in three versions, including a surprising titanium edition, here’s the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon 41mm.Looking at the current Royal Oak collection, you’ll notice that there is already a tourbillon model. Yet, this iteration of the RO is hand-wound, features an extra-thin movement and its tourbillon cage has a classic architecture, with bridges front and back. Today, the brand introduces something more modern a

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity - Full Review with live photos, specs and price - Monochrome-Watches
It's not often we cover Maurice Lacroix on Monochrome, but over the past few years we've seen a number of interesting watches being introduced by this manufacture. We showed you the Masterpiece Gravity as a Baselworld 2014 introduction, but now we bring share our extensive review just prior to Baselworld 2015, in anticipation of the novelties to come.Founded in 1976, the Swiss brand of Maurice Lacroix is upping their game since 2006 by bringing in-house developed components and movements to their line-up. The introduction of a square and clover-leaf wheel, intriguingly placed on the dial-side of the watch and doubling as an indicator for the seconds or a seemingly floating seconds hand are two of the noteworthy visible characteristics of their work. For the Gravity, an in-house silicon escapement receives a prominent place on the front of the watch. I'd say on the dial but there really isn't one except for the small, off-center one.
