Handwerkskunst… If you know one thing or two about A. Lange & Sohne Datograph. And this shouldn’t come as a surprise, as this emblematic and historically important chronograph celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Let’s discover what this Datograph Handwerkskunst Limited Edition is all about – spoiler: there are small details that will surely please long-term collectors.?Earlier this year, during Watches & Wonders Geneva, German watchmaker A. Interview - Talking To Remi Maillat, The Man Behind Krayon Watches
Independent watchmaker Krayon was created a few years ago by Remi Maillat. Besides his developments behind the scene for other brands, Krayon made a remarkable debut with the mindbogglingly complex Everywhere, the first mechanical watch able to compute the sunrise and sunset times everywhere on the globe. This impressive world-first earned Krayon a well-deserved accolade at the GPHG 2018 with the Innovation Prize. Maillat sits at an interesting intersection at watchmaking. His watches are classic and, at the same time, profoundly modern and innovative. On the occasion of a visit to Krayon's new facilities in Neuchatel, we sat for a talk with the independent watchmaker to better understand his work.Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – How did you become hooked on watchmaking? First Look: The New Cartier Santos Dual Time
It makes perfect sense for the world's first custom-made pilot's wristwatch to be equipped with a dual-time function. Fair enough, Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont probably didn't cross too many time zones in his early flying machines, but combining the iconic Santos watch designed for him by Louis Cartier with dual time indications is a match made in heaven. Not to be confused with the Santos-Dumont?lineup of slimmer, flatter and more elegant models inspired by the historic 1904 original, this Santos de Cartier novelty belongs to the revamped 2018 family. The latest Cartier Santos Dual Time, often described as Cartier's vision of a luxury sports watch, is the first member of the contemporary Santos family to receive a dual time complication.Displaying iconic Cartier Roman numerals, a railway minutes track and sword-shaped hour and minute hands, the dial has an elegant anthracite colour with a silky sunray-brushed finish. To stand out against the grey dial, the Roman numerals ar
The Petrolhead Corner: The EV-Swapped Electrogenic Mazda MX-5
EVs are booming at the moment, and I’ve said before they are here to stay. But, I say this again too; they are a part of the solution to a global problem, but not the?solution. And whenever it involves adding extra doses of fun into cars or preserving classics for future generations, we can certainly get behind the EV movement. Heck, with companies like The Land Rovers and AC Cars taking on the challenge of converting icons such as the Defender and AC Ace to electric drive, we’re not complaining. It’s a way to keep them on the road, despite ever-stringent emissions regulations and whatnot. So, when the news of a do-it-yourself EV-conversion kit for the mighty Mazda MX-5 (or Miata for our US readers) we certainly took notice!?a modern-day iconThe MX-5 or Miata by Mazda has always been a prime example of a fun car. A 50-50 weight distribution, rear-wheel drive, an open-top driving experience, a good bit of power but nothing crazy, and solid reliability pretty much made
