SIHH 2015: A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Up/Down now in Pink Gold - Monochrome-Watches
If you ask collectors which is the best ever chronograph, you’ll probably get 2 or 3 recurring answers: Daytona, Omega Speedmaster and A. Lange & Sohne Datograph. For sure, the two first watches are iconic and highly interesting. However,?when it comes to Haute Horlogerie matters and technically advanced movements, the one and only answer remaining is the Datograph. Already available in platinum, the A. Lange and Sohne Datograph Up/Down comes now in a new pink gold edition. We said new… in fact, not completely. If watches are a subject you’re following for some years now, you might be familiar with this watch.?In 2003 Lange and Sohne launched a Datograph?in pink?gold with a black dial. Of course it did not have the technical characteristics of the actual reference, the?Datograph Up/Down. Born in 1999, the Datograph was updated in 2012 with many improvements. Visually first, the Roman numerals have made place for baton hour markers and the case has been enlarged f
First Look: New Precious Versions of the AP Royal Oak Selfwinding 37mm
When Audemars Piguet‘s iconic Royal Oak turned fifty in 2022, the brand announced that the permanent range of Royal Oak models would be updated aesthetically and mechanically. With this in mind, the 37mm Royal Oak was one of the beneficiaries of the ‘new design evolution’ and reappears in 2024 in two luxurious editions in gold cases with a generous sprinkling of diamonds and gemstones. While the design evolution of 2022 respects the DNA of the Royal Oak’s tonneau-shaped case, octagonal bezel, integrated bracelet and tapisserie dial, the incorporation of the automatic calibre 5900 resulted in a reduced thickness from 9.8 to 9mm. Not only is the case slimmer, but the bevels on the bezel, bracelet and sides are more pronounced, meaning that their polished angles attract more light to the case and make it look slimmer. Another key design upgrade concerns the bracelet with thinner and lighter links that taper elegantly to the folding clasp. Ad - Scroll to c
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic
It has become something of a ritual. Year after year, Bvlgari continues its streak of record-breaking ultra-thin watches. With the release of the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic, the brand accumulates its sixth world record in six years. But it would be reductive to think that the Octo Finissimo is just a story of record performances. Above anything else, the sleek Octo Finissimo is a style statement taking masculine elegance to the next level. It all started in 2014. Bvlgari caught the industry by surprise when it released the world's thinnest tourbillon with the Octo Finissimo and its 5mm thick case. Since then the brand is on a roll. In 2016, came the thinnest minute repeater with a 6.85mm profile, and then the thinnest automatic watch (for a few months) with a 5.15mm three-hander. At Baselworld 2018, Bvlgari introduced the paper-thin Octo Finissimo Automatic Tourbillon, the world's thinnest automatic watch and tourbillon watch
The Collector's Series: Up Close and Personal with the URWERK UR-103
Readers of The Collector's Series and the Collector's Corner know that I sometimes contribute to the column - writing articles for the series is just one more way for me to get excited about vintage watches. I read a little about a specific watch, go deeper down the rabbit hole, and before I know it, I'm looking for listings on Chrono24. Sometimes, I write weird, off-kilter posts like that time in October 2022 when I visited Ond?ej Berkus' atelier (and also a couple of weeks ago) and spent the day talking about watches and life with him. For this artistic freedom, I thank the team at MONOCHROME! This piece falls in that same vein. Call it my way of becoming better acquainted with a piece I own; call it the ramblings of someone who has now well and truly lost all his marbles. In any case, I hope you enjoy the ride. Because the story of this Urwerk UR-103 is quite a complex one.Editor’s Note: @aaaaaaaaaarian should be credited for some of the photos found in this article (images wi
